To save this country.
I cannot buy the theory that only Democrats are good and all Republicans are bad. I think most people believe that it is a fallacy to hold such beliefs.
The times are too critical for the nation to not be united.
We know the natural inclination is to say that there are no good Republicans. That it is impossible to work with any of them. They are evil.
Someone should try.
The Department of Justice could alleviate a lot of the ill feelings in the different tribes, in my opinion, by appointing a team of Special Prosecutors to get to the entire truth about what happened during the Trump Administration, especially on and before January 6th of this year. ( Although we know enough already about all the sleazy lawlessness that went on.) Perhaps a team of investigators could release a little steam from the political temperature ?
A lot of the political rhetoric needs to be drowned with a bucket of water. The political Parties are becoming just like George Washington warned us about. It has become impossible for them to work together for the benefit of this country.
Just my opinion.

(1,159 posts)I'm sure there are a few good people somewhere who still call themselves republicans, but they are such silent drops in the ocean of evil, hate-filled, racist traitors that the question is effectively moot. This isn't complicated: Trump is the embodiment of evangelical and republican Jim Crow family values. The question, then, is which of our core values goes on the chopping block . . . again.
Sure, we are all just sharing our opinions here.
My opinion is that sometimes compromise is the easy way out, especially when some "other" group is yet again going to suffer the brunt of the resulting pain.
Enough already.

(15,018 posts)...Republicans have let me down time and again in surprising ways. I thought, for instance, it was almost a certainty that Trump's nomination would fracture the Republican party in 2016. As much as a greatly disagreed with Republican values and policy positions, I thought that at least for a fair number their purported political philosophy was genuine, that they believed themselves to be acting for the good of country.
Yet, nearly all Republicans ignored the obvious ignorance and corruption and mental unfitness of Trump, for no other reason than wanting to appease their base and stay in power. All Republican protests against the awful things Trump said and did were feeble from the start, and quickly grew fainter and fainter. Few had the courage to stand up for what was right during either impeachment, or in investigating 1/6.
They've been willing to do whatever it takes, no matter how harmful and dangerous, to keep their radicalized base fired up and to avoid the wrath of Trump.
I can only conclude that the decay of the Republican party has been going on for so long that they very process of rising to power and prominence in that party requires a great lack of character, and that the process has been weeding our decency and principle for a long time now.

(5,787 posts)for Dems to trust them.
Saying we should work with them feels just like an episode of Deep Space Nine when the Cardassians agree to work with the Dominion.
Or the U.S. with Putin.
Or Chuck Schumer with McConnell.
The only good Republican is an imprisoned Republican.

(26,548 posts)I don't mind working with people like the Lincoln Project who are actively opposing them.
If you're talking about elected Rs, there's practically nothing to work with. I think working with the two Rs on the 1/6 Comission is about the most we are going to manage, and they will most likely be gone after 2022.

(11,353 posts)I didn't agree. That was until I heard, "fuck your feelings." and "the only good democrat is a dead democrat." and on top of that the 1/6 coup attempt. It's up to them to reach across the isle and kiss my ass for awhile.
They're a fascist party now and there is no working together with fascist.
