People who don't "do" empathy

There are many reasons why last Saturday's J6 rally was an abysmal failure. Some people feared being arrested if they attended, others felt that an event that didn't include the usual GOP loudmouths - along with Dear Leader himself - bellowing into a mic about alleged injustices just wasn't worth showing up for.

But one of the main reasons for the lack of attendees, IMHO, was the fact that the event was styled as being a show of support for the "political prisoners" who were arrested as a result of the January 6th insurrection, who are currently languishing in jail in horrific conditions (some people are saying), and without the financial resources to post bail and/or hire expert legal counsel.

Well, it should be obvious by now that Republicans don't "do" empathy.

If you want to attract a crowd of Trump-humpers, you have to rile them up with rhetorical bullshit about how their free-dumbs are being assaulted, how their votes were stolen, how they're being persecuted for their religious beliefs, and are under attack by God-hating communists who kill unborn babies for fun and profit.

But what you don't do if you're trying to attract a decent-sized crowd of Republicans is appeal to their non-existent empathy for their fellow Trump-humpers. You don't even try to appeal to their sense of outrage that their fellow patriots are unjustly imprisoned - because they really don't give a fuck.

The lack of any show of support for the January 6th insurrectionists is yet another demonstration of Trumpism: They're not heroes because they were captured. I like people who weren't captured.

If the January 6th insurrectionists were holding out any hope that their comrades would come to their aid with a show of force last Saturday, those hopes were dashed by the few hundred people who showed up - apparently dazed and confused by why they were there in the first place.

That's all the Jan 6th folks are to the Trumplicans. No pardons for you. Hopefully enough folks have realized TFG couldn't give 2 f--ks about these folks.

Another distinct possibility is that they are cowardly dogs. I suspect these two reasons are closely enough related that they could be called twins.
