Cops Are Giving Out 'Not Reaching Pouches.' Twitter Calls Them 'Don't Murder Me' Bags.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has a new plan to keep drivers safe during traffic stops: clear, plastic holders called “not-reaching pouches” that put a person’s driver’s license and insurance information in plain view so a cop doesn’t think they’re grabbing something more nefarious.

But some people are grimly dubbing the devices—which drivers can keep on their air vent—”please-don’t-execute-me pouches” or a “don’t-murder-me pouches.”

“Hey guys? The problem isn't that people sometimes have to find the paperwork when you ask for it. It's that you sometimes shoot people when they are looking for that thing you asked,” one person said on Twitter Thursday, addressing the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. “This doesn't solve that problem.”

in your car at all times? Aside from perhaps needing your license as proof of identity (like, maybe you want to vote?) it would invite break-ins and your having to spend entirely too much of your remaining lifetime with the DMV trying to get them replaced.

Or what about people from out of the area, or those in rental cars? Maybe it would be easier to teach the cops not to shoot as many people in the first place.

... I'll tape my drivers license, vehicle registration and insurance card right on my driver's side window. Cop stops me, wants to see my ID, I'll roll up the window.

Also is it safe for the police to ask you to leave all that info in plain view out on the dashboard ?
Sure most will turn it over but seems a bad option just to not address an internal problem

11. Also, throw away your glove compartment door. Everybody in the car should be naked.

When the cop comes, throw your keys out the window so you can't run him down. Display a notarized statement in the car window that you will hold the police harmless for any accidental shootings or injuries from tasing or beating.

Offer to give him any valuables in the car and suggest that sexual favors are definitely OK with you.

Did I leave anything out?

To keep my registration and insurance behind the driver's side sun visor. When pulled over, reach up and flick on the dome light, retrieve your documents, and rest your hands at 12:00 on the steering wheel until you're asked for them, then return your hands to the wheel.

And this was in white-ass northwestern CT (~400 kids in my HS, six non-Whites), before police being dangerous feral animals was even a thing. It is sage advice though; I tell it to as many folks as will listen.
