McCaskill maintains 8-point lead over Akin in new Rasmussen poll

"Rasmussen is an independent pollster which is generally considered to lean conservative in its polls. Its latest Senate poll in Missouri is similar to a Post-Dispatch poll shortly after the controversial remark was first publicized, that had McCaskill up in the race by 9 points, after she had previously been trailing.

Rasmussen also found GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney beating President Barack Obama in Missouri by 11 points, 54-43 percent. Both presidential campaigns early on abandoned Missouri, a previous battleground state, on the assumption that Romney has it sewn up this year.

The Rasmussen poll sampled 500 likely Missouri voters Oct. 17, and has a margin for error of plus or minus 4.5 points."
