So a New Jersey "centrist" PAC sending mailers to indys in Arizona introducing Sinema as the reincarnation of John McCain and praising the money in the bipartisan mini-bill as already on the way to AZ https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/sinema-cueing-up-to-go-indy-must-read via @TPM

Absolutely fascinating look at Kyrsten Sinemas efforts to position herself as an independent in Arizona, possibly formally but definitely in effect. It makes pretty clear shes not done with politics or angling for a high dollar lobbying gig, as some speculate. She thinks she can be a latter-day McCain and build her political brand on that basis, likely looking for a promotion above the Senate. TPM Reader GT, a registered independent in Arizona, walks us through the view from in-state as well as the mailers hes been getting on Sinemas behalf from something called the Center Forward PAC run out of New Jersey and chaired by former Alabama Rep. Bud Cramer (D).
I remain pretty confident that Sinema has misjudged the politics. But as GT makes clear, theres no question she has a plan and is following it in a very considered way.

(5,524 posts)Yeah, because so many Presidential candidates have succeeded outside the two party system.

(5,524 posts)And even if it is, wouldn't it still a real uphill battle without either party?
I get that the Independents are a huge voting block now but they don't swing any collective power, influence or money at all.

(53,763 posts)of both infrastructure bills, she's going to get primaried when she comes up for re-election. Some AZ dems who worked for her campaign have already stated that.
And as for her ambitions of higher office...hah! that's laughable if true. She apparently has such an exaggerrated opinion of herself.
She's no John McCain.

(22,912 posts)She would lose in a Democratic primary race the way things stand now. But good chance a Republican could walk away with the Senate seat if she took the Indy route with a Democrat in the race also.

(15,325 posts)...a convenient shift to the election power & benefits of the Dem Party & now on to her next rung up the ladder as an Independent.
Those spots still remain Ms Sinema.

(29,322 posts)He was a conservative that voted the party line though he would have disagreements. I saw Build the dang fence ads from McCain during his re-elections while Sinema is sabotaging her own party. If she does goes (I) I wont be surprised if I see a build the wall ad from her.
