Chief of Space Operations Gen. John W. "Jay" Raymond unveiled the Guardian Service Dress prototype during the Air Force Associations Air, Space, and Cyber conference on Sept. 21, 2021.
The uniform is a marked departure from the dress blues of the Air Force, from which the Space Force was spun off in 2019. It has a dark navy coat that buttons on the right-hand side, unlike the Air Force coat that buttons in the middle, and gray pants. Raymond said the coat's six buttons -- which bear the Space Force emblem -- are meant to represent its status as the military's sixth service.
But the cut of the coat reminded some online commenters of the burgundy uniform worn by Capt. James T. Kirk of "Star Trek" fame in "The Wrath of Khan," or the dark blue uniforms worn by the crew on the sci-fi show "Battlestar Galactica." It will be some time before Space Force Guardians get to wear their new uniform on a regular basis. Raymond said the service will collect comments over the next few months, then start the process of wear-testing the uniform before it is distributed widely.
The uniform announcement followed Mondays unveiling of the Space Forces enlisted rank insignia.
The chevron designs for senior noncommissioned officers were inspired by earth orbits, the service said.

(61,695 posts)Trousers can be difficult to sew, but I'd never put a zipper in the back of them!
Recently, designers have moved women's side zippers a little bit forward. I can tell because it's definitely easier for me to work it now.
I like the jacket, though.

(12,440 posts)I just wish it would have been unveiled in 2016.
More resources put into advancing our knowledge of the universe is always a good thing imho.

(2,018 posts)This is a lot of cosplay and BS, at the cost of endless tax money. We do not need a "space force" when we have no technology for missions in space, at best we won't for decades, and possibly we never will. Any satellites and high altitude missions are handled by the other branches, mainly Air Force, and NASA just fine. Someone needs to get real and admit this was just playtime for Dump's ego.
TFG the would be Hitler and his merry band of idiots/fools playing Capt Kirk and Starship. Jerkoffs.

(1,967 posts)That whole fiasco is embarrassingly stupid.
We dont have enough spaceships to justify a separate branch of the military.
The Air Force and NASA have everything covered, thank you very much.

Second, you know you're not supposed to talk about the cloaked ships & stations.

Starship/Starbase Master Sergeant? Sweet Jesus. What senior NCO would sink to the depths required to wear that nonsense?
Who holds the copyright on Star Trek? Step in and stop this silliness if Biden wont.

Maybe one day in the far future, sure, but let's get this whole thing back down to earth with some perspective that really should be put into those uniforms.
Though probably not, those outfits really seem to have some TFG fantasy input. Surprised they're not gold colored.

Im still against the whole idea, but at least the rank insignia isnt a complete farce.

(9,664 posts)Though poking the spoof was fun too, this is another example of the mark TFG put onto our country: no surprises in absurdity from that gang or whomever might still be mucking around.

TFG has messed up so many things that I wasnt even surprised when I saw those ridiculous ranks.

Are those rating insignia for real? "Starbase Master Sgt.?"
I smell satire.
