Unless they've pitched a tent on the lawn, the Secret Service is being charged nightly for the rooms they use at Mar-a-Lago. Back in 2020, he was charging them $650 per night per room. And since there must have been a couple of dozen agents around him at all times, figure out what it was costing taxpayers.
An ex-president is entitled to Secret Service protection 24/7, but no one seems to know what they are being charged for rooms and food today.
Just as a reference point, a Mar-A-Lago Membership Cost is $200,000 and has to be accepted by the committee. This is not all; members need to pay nearly $14,000 every year to remain members of this exclusive club. Members also have to spend a $2,000 annual minimum on food.
So even though TFG is no longer president, the scams are unending. He scams wealthy morons who want to belong to his club and kiss his ring. And he scams the SS for room and board, just as surely as he scams his MAGAs to send him money for his court costs. It's what he does. It's all he does. It's all he knows how to do.
Homelessness, starving children and billionaires who pay no taxes are part of America's "normal." I guess that a scam artist who was voted out of office, yet is still stuffing his pockets with our tax money is part of this "normal."
I really get sick anytime some fool says "America is the greatest country in the world." Go spend a night sleeping on a subway grate to keep warm. Then tell me about the greatness of America.

(82,849 posts)Paul Campos at Lawyers, Guns and Money did a little research. Was Harry Truman REALLY living in penury (except for the meager value of his family farm) after he left office in 1953? Maybe not quite so much. But the Former Presidents Act was passed in 1958 to avoid the unsavory image of a former president of the United States cadging dimes on street corners.

(4,448 posts)Long before Trump.
Such n such President isn't President anymore, but he is charging the SS $X to use their home, or the guest house etc. etc.
All I know is that Trump isn't the only ex-president charging the secret service room and board.
I'm trying to not repeat those stories because they mostly try to impune the Presidents that we like. But if you do some googling you can find them.

(53,776 posts)I get that presidents get that for life but other presidents don't live in expensive resort hotels.
And what happened with the local law about Mar-a-logo not allowed to be a permanent residence?

(15,035 posts)What I am bitching about is that TFG has found a way to line his pockets because of that protection.
He's also established protection for Ivanka, Jared, Don Jr. et al (for a limited time). I don't know if other former presidents have done this, but this prick has found every way there is to rip off the system.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) Former President Donald Trumps youngest son will be attending an exclusive private school not far from Mar-a-Lago.
The Palm Beach Post reports that 15-year-old Barron Trump will be attending Oxbridge Academy starting next week.
Administrators at the West Palm Beach school sent an email to parents on Wednesday telling them about his arrival with the familys permission. The school wanted to alert the parents that a small contingent of Secret Service agents will accompany Barron.
Oxbridge was founded in 2011 by billionaire Bill Koch. He is the brother of Charles and the late David Koch, who ran the familys Koch Industries.

Sorry to be snarky about this. Every child in every school everywhere should be wearing a mask.
It's just that the ex-prick-in-chief didn't care who lived or died, lied about Covid, and is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans due to those lies.
Barron is a child who is responsible for none of this. He didn't get to pick his parents.
