I pretty much stopped reading his fiction, which got a little too turgid and overblown for me. I like his non-fiction much better. But you have to admit, he's talented, and he always swings for the fences...

His writing is one of a kind. Many have imitated his types of plots, but nobody can pull them off using that conversational, folksy prose. He doesn't just tell you a story; he invites you into it.
