Trump Sues NYT and Niece--Who Calls Him 'F*cking Loser'

Former President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against The New York Times, three of its reporters, and his niece—claiming they hatched an “insidious plot” to obtain his private records for a story about his tax history.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Dutchess County, New York, by attorney Alina Habba, alleges that the newspaper convinced Mary Trump to “smuggle records out of her attorney’s office and turn them over to The Times” despite her having signed a confidentiality agreement in 2001 after settling a contentious legal battle over the will of Frederick Trump, Donald’s father and Mary’s grandfather.

The new suit seeks damages “in an amount to be determined at trial, but believed to be no less than One Hundred Million Dollars” from both Mary Trump and the Times.

It follows a suit filed by Charles Harder on behalf of Donald Trump’s brother Robert to try and stop Mary Trump and publisher Simon & Schuster from releasing her memoir, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.

It is filed by a 4 attorney firm from New Jersey that does not list any credentials for the attorneys in the firm

Every firm that I know and all of the big firms list the credentials of the attorneys such as which law schools attended and any honors/publications

I read the petition and I suspect that this is a contingent fee case where TFG is not paying the attorneys. This is a bad contingent fee case in that most of the issues may be resolved in a summary judgement on the enforcablity of NDA

Many politicians have much less provable books and statements made against them and they don't sue because such suits are almost all losers. The fact the Times published their proof (which is rather convincing) would suggest Trump is going to lose in front of a jury. Which means the suit will eventually be dropped. The days of Trump strong arming people with lawyers is over. People will donate time to beat him in court. Mary will have no trouble (and the Times is a nice ally) finding a lot of help. This is a fantasy of a demented man if he thinks this in anyway was a good idea.

For us it should be comic gold. And of course, it might lead to finally actual real criminal charges if he plays this as stupid as we all know he could play it.

2. Mary Trump discussed this in her first book and the NY Times article appeared in 2018

And she didn't "smuggle" any of "his" records anywhere, there were her own records from her lawyer's office. There had been a lawsuit because her Uncle Donald worked to disinherit Mary and her brother in their grandfather's will - he also attempted to disinherit his three remaining siblings, he wanted everything. Fred Trump senior was suffering from dementia, but his wife, Mary's grandmother, suspected Donald's machinations and stepped in. Fred Trump Sr. died in 1999.

you can't be sued for defamation during the process. Entirely protected speech.

Trump can't get at his niece for that blow.

12. To sue the New York Times and his niece, Trump turned to a low profile attorney from New Jersey

WOW, Marc E. Kasowitz is no longer representing TFG. Kasowitz is a major league asshole who has been represent TFG for a very long time. My son was involved in a dispute with Kasowitz in a commercial loan type transaction and was not impressed. For Kasowitz to leave TFG is a big deal

Earlier this month, one of former president Donald Trump’s best-known attorneys — veteran litigator Marc E. Kasowitz — withdrew from a case where Trump had been sued for defamation.....

It’s unclear why Kasowitz stopped representing Trump in the defamation case, which was brought by former “Apprentice” contestant Summer Zervos, or how Trump chose Habba to represent him in that suit and the one against the Times. Neither Trump nor Habba responded to requests for comment Wednesday.....

In the past, Trump turned to a different attorney, Charles Harder, for lawsuits against media outlets. Harder was known for representing wrestler Hulk Hogan in a lawsuit against the website Gawker, which resulted in a $140 million judgment and the bankruptcy of the site. Harder told The Post on Wednesday that he was no longer working for Trump, but otherwise declined to comment.

In recent weeks, three of Trump’s high-profile attorneys have withdrawn from cases where they represented him or his family. None offered a public explanation.

In addition to Kasowitz, Marc Mukasey — who had previously represented Trump’s foundation and business — withdrew from a case where he was defending Eric Trump against inquiries from the New York attorney general. Mukasey declined to comment.

Joanna Hendon, of the firm Alston and Bird, had defended Trump against a lawsuit that alleged he defrauded customers by endorsing a scheme to market video phones. But Hendon — who had represented Trump since 2018 — withdrew in August, saying in a court filing that the change had been Trump’s decision.

Trump replaced her firm with a much smaller one, Robert & Robert, located in the Long Island town of Uniondale, N.Y. Robert & Robert lists five attorneys on its website. In that case, neither Trump’s old attorneys nor his new ones responded to requests for comment Wednesday.

TFG is losing his few competent attorneys and replacing them with small law firm types. The new attorney in the NYT/Mary Trump case is with a 4 person firm who does not list which law schools their attorneys attended in part because the lead partner is from a tier 4 law school.

TFG is hurting
