Stuart Stevens, a Bush-era republican consultant was just on Brian William's show on MSNBC and gave some sober and very frank advice to recalcitrant Dems (do you hear me Sinema and Manchin?), he said that if significant and large infrastructure bills are not passed republicans will take a majority in the House and impeach VP Harris, and if they get the Senate too, they will also impeach Biden.
It almost seems Sinema and Manchin with their increasingly frequent and public digging in of heels against the Biden agenda, don't care, and maybe even welcome it. Who are they beholden to?

(53,469 posts)It's quite possible big Pharma has influence over Manchin.

As for Sinema, who knows? Wrongheadedness doesn't quite explain her actions to me.

(95,237 posts)Does he vote as he does because he is paid to, or is he paid because he votes as he does?
To state he is influenced or controlled or even blackmailed is to suppose that he would do as you or I, except that he is enticed or threatened to do otherwise, and gives in to temptation or fear.

(25,124 posts)I blame the person who started the whole "Democrats are corrupt and beholden to (fill in the blank: Wall Street, Big Pharma, wealthy donors, lobbyists, corporations, billionaires, etc.)" because they receive campaign contributions.
The stupid idea that it's impossible for people working in finance/banking/pharma/corporations/or are rich to contribute money to Democrats because they agree with their progressive policies; that there are no lobbyists for environmentalism and other liberal causes; all of them are conservatives who somehow think elected official can read their minds that their contribution is a bribe to be Republican and will be "beholden." Absurd. Who thinks like that?
Now lots of people automatically cynically believe Democrats must be beholden to whatever, assuming everything's about money. A person can simply be wrong, misinformed, an asshole, doing something out of revenge or spite, because they think it'll help them get reelected -- many things.
Also, it's cheaper and easier to use blackmail or threats if you're Republican/foreign power wanting to destroy democracy by getting elected officials to help you.

(24,103 posts)to remove Biden or Harris from office. If they take the House, it's a given they will spend the next two years impeaching both of them multiple times. They will look like clowns doing it.

Here's hoping that might change - and soon.
