The New Air Force One May Not Be Ugly: Report
The Trump administration wanted a red-white-and-blue color scheme that an Air Force general now has reportedly called a "cartoon."

Air Force One is the call sign for any U.S. Air Force aircraft carrying the president, though that is usually a Boeing VC-25 that has been painted blue and white, a livery that has been tradition since the 1960s. The Trump administration wanted a far uglier one, though it sounds like cooler heads will prevail.
To recap, here is the color scheme preferred by Trump:

(101,730 posts)Otherwise, beyond the flag, (which I am not criticizing, mind you), I get soooooooooo sick of it. It has been abused as the "symbolic colors of patriotism" by those who are anything BUT, so the colors carry some negative connotation-- to me at least.
The blue was JFK's choice, but it was selected in conjunction with security assessments that showed the blue disappeared in the sky and clouds, making the plane less obvious to those who might shoot it down. While the technology of today likely takes away that advantage, I still think it is a good thing.

(9,011 posts)My grandmother liked red white and blue and black.
She had really good taste which didn't feel like patriotism on display. She was more nautical and a little eclectic which I guess I picked up from her.
She did have some neat old patriotic stuff but it was a bit kitschy and carefully curated.

One thing about Trump is that he has incredibly tacky style and tastes. Everything is overstated and whatever can be painted gold, he paints gold.

(15,192 posts)Look, I fucking hate that orange turd, with his shaved Golden Retriever ass for a face with the heat of a million suns...
and, scrapping his clown-car color scheme would be just one of thousands of cuts to his swollen head ego, but then again, I have been substituting the word "shitforbrains" for the word t***p when playing Euchre since 2015.
With advancement in radar and electronic warfare, it seems silly to suggest that light blue provides better camouflage than red, but it's true.
To this day, we still paint Navy ships "haze gray" to make them harder to see. Seems like the colors of the sky would make for better operational security when it comes to the president's plane.
Funny Story: After about a decade of the Afghanistan War, the powers that be decided that the Navy could provide some relief for the Army and Marines by sending a bunch of Sailors used to working on ships to fill some rear positions on the ground in Kabul and other bases.
So a bunch of us went. We were used to doing group PT. We dressed out in our Navy issued PT gear (Blue Shorts with Navy in reflective silver on the leg, and bright neon gold shirts with a reflective Navy on the front) and started our formation run around the base
Some staff Sargent nearly tackled us. The base senior NCO explained that we don't wear "neon" in a "frickin" war zone.

(1,266 posts)Actually, thats pretty understated for a Trump designed color scheme. I like this comment from the feedback...
Given that its Trump, anything less tacky than a gold color scheme with a mural of Jesus Christ shooting Nancy Pelosi with an AR-15 is probably a win.
