(11,986 posts)As weak as the rhythm method is, it's not totally useless. It's pretty much impossible to get pregnant during the week after your period ends, which is when you would have to get pregnant for 6 weeks of pregnancy to correspond to 2 weeks after when you expected your next period. Odds are, 2 weeks late for your period corresponds to 4 weeks or pregnancy. 6 weeks of pregnancy corresponds to 4 weeks late. Roughly speaking.

(42 posts)Given that the sperm can live up to 10 days in the uterus, plus the fact that some women ovulate on organism, others ovulate more than once a month, some women have periods with no ovulation, some women have both ovum release eggs, some only release an egg from one ovum at a time, etc., so though I agree the "2 weeks pregnant" is not accurate, in actually, at best it is a guess.
By the way, the rhythm method only works when the women ovulates at the most, once a month, and only releases one egg a cycle.

(7,217 posts)Does this imply women have to keep daily medical records? And provide them to the state or 3rd parties in violation of HIPPA?
What a damn mess.

(113,284 posts)An old one from my catholic school days.
Women cycle in many different ways. There is no one pattern that fits every woman, and it is absurd and insulting for people to authoritatively claim otherwise.

(1,997 posts)That means that technically, a woman with a "normal" cycle is already two weeks pregnant at the moment of conception. A "six week" embryo has only been developing for four weeks. So, AOC is right, a woman with a regular 28-day cycle will be two weeks late when she is six weeks pregnant.
Women with irregular cycles (i.e. most women) will have a hard time noticing a missed period since we are not expecting a period on a set date.

A individual's body is his/her own domain. Period.

(11,085 posts)My guess is they'll do this by rewriting the rape laws so no one can ever successfully prosecute a man for rape ever again. Maybe they'll give the rapist the option to marry the woman. If he's willing to marry her, they can pretend that's not really rape, just a proposal of marriage. If she says no, that's her problem.
(I am having second thoughts about posting this for fear some legislator in Texas might get ideas.)

(5,125 posts)You misuse it. You lose it.
Rapists getting away with murder would no longer be a thing after the first conviction. As without the penis, it would simply be murder.
Also having to sit to pee might engender some sense of what it's like to be female. Who knows?
But if Texas is looking for radical ways to discourage rape, there it is.

(2,809 posts)Really now. And you're going to pay for all the nannies the whole state of Texas will need to care for the unwanted children? Except of course for those children that will die because you shouted "freedom" over sound medical advice. And of course the nanny state has to keep the likes of same-sex parents from adoption. Perhaps by that logic the nanny state should begin mass castrations?
