had a shooting fatality at one of our high schools a few weeks ago. The week after the shooting at Mt. Tabor High School,the Monday after Labor Day break, theschool I teach at had a huge brawl break out during lunch. lots of punches thrown, guy on guy, girl on girl, girl and guys throwing punches at each other. Deputies deployed pepper spray and tasers to break up the fights, school wide lockdown for the rest of the day. The day after our brawl two girls started punching each other silly directly across the hall from my room as we were in the middle of class change. I grabbed one of the combatants and another male teacher grabbed the other girl and this new fight exploded down the hall where other kids were watching and filming the fights, a couple more fights broke out etc....that became our second day in a row of total school lock down. Wednesday was tense but no fights, Thrusday, shouting/cussing match but no fights. Faculty is breathing a sigh of relieve...just make it through Friday and a weekend for everybody to calm down. The Friday arrives, A good day of classes, dismissal bell rings, I'm out in the front bus lot getting kids loaded on their buses when 3 shots rang out, lots of Deer in the Headlights look from kids and faculty, then the race to get everybody back inside the school, Cops everywhere, a fireturck and ambulance arrive, I've still got 10-15 buses with kids to unload and get back in the school, they are unloaded and told to run to front of school and into the gym along with the bus drivers....Situation finally calms down...None of our kids were hurt. Seems that gang/drug activity who knows ....was going down at the tennis court park 300-400 yards from our campus. Cops still searching for the shooter....We are still at semi-lock down during lunch while trying to return our school to normal during Covid.....So it's been a tough few weeks of education in our 2nd fall of Covid-19.
