A California mother of four who was proudly anti-vax, particularly anti-COVID-19 vaccine, died of complications due to the coronavirus.
Kristen Lowery, 40, was a figurehead on social media, proclaiming her anti-mask and vaccine views that garnered high praise. She died on Sept. 15, her aunt said ...

(3,991 posts)In a GoFundMe thats hoping to raise money for her final expenses, Lowery is described as a beautiful and amazing woman but more than that she was phenomenal mother who always, ALWAYS put her children first.
The mother who vaxxed against her personal desire would have put her children first. This lady was selfish.

(13,479 posts)People who I grew up with and cared about. I've moved away from my hometown, but still am connected via social media, and they share pictures with the same exact thing. "Unmasked, Unmuzzled, Unvaccinated, Unafraid." It's perplexing to me bc when they post something slightly anti-vaxx they get a lot of engagement (most of it supported and some of it from other people I knew and cared about. People who surprise me).
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I felt about all of this because these people aren't evil awful people. They're brainwashed by SOMETHING. And not all of them are Fox watching Republicans. Some of them are hippie adjacent. Like Deadhead types that have grown up and are yoga practicing hippies.
Which brings me back to facebook targeted algorithms. Groups of people encouraging others. One of them wrote an anti-sunscreen screed this past summer, and I was so confused. Like she literally has two kids, spends every day of the summer at the beach, and doesn't put sunscreen on them bc it's toxic. And she shared some nonsense articles.
So the wellness community has been taken over by complete nutbaggery. (Maybe it was always like that, but it has larger stakes now. It's actively trying to kill people.) Makes me so angry,
Sorry, this is longer than I intended, but the toxicity of the intersection of MAGA, Q and the Wellness communities seems like one big giant PSY-OPS experiment.

(61,538 posts)FaceBook, YouTube, and other platforms deliberately entice people to click on ever-increasing extremist content. This is done to sell advertising.
You can watch it happen. Go to your YouTube feed and click on something political. Watch your feed offer you even more content - a little more extreme. Click on those offerings and your YouTube feed will blow up with ever more extreme offerings. It's a marketing ploy meant to draw you in. It's literally addictive.
And yes, whose offering the extreme, conspiracy-laden content? People with an agenda. They're selling clicks too, or they're working for a campaign without disclosing it, or their goal is to create chaos.

People with training in propaganda techniques are heading up this operation.

(18,969 posts)Not because she was anti vaccine, but because she was militant anti vaccine who spread misinformation that likely got others sick or killed.
Hey, if you're anti vaccine for yourself, it's stupid and misinformed, but it only effects you. That's one thing. It's a totally different thing if you're out there spreading lies and misinformation publicly that is getting others sick and dead.
Just once, when one of these high profile people die, I'd like to hear their family apologize to the public for all the harm their dead family member caused. Kristen Lowery left behind 4 of her own children, but she also made sure to do as much as she could to make sure other families lost loved ones too, that's her legacy.

Johnny2X2X
(18,969 posts)But there's a big difference between being quietly anti vax and militant like this woman was. Assuming that a normal antivaxxer would quarantine and act responsibly if they were exposed to or contracted Covid. That person is misinformed and hurting the country's effort to get out of this. But they are a far cry from someone like Lowery who did everything she could to make sure as many people died as possible.
Just differentiating, there are levels to this, Lowery caused more harm to others because of how outspoken she was in spreading dangerous lies.

(30,613 posts)"a normal antivaxxer would quarantine and act responsibly"
Ummm, NO. These people don't compartmentalize their idiocy. They don't vax, they don't social distance, they don't mask, they don't quarantine.
