(8,909 posts)very conservative Catholics want everyone to believe as they do.
Never realizing that Pelosi represents all faiths and governs that way,
regardless that she's Catholic.
Abortion is a religious issue not a political one.
Abortion as based on the Right To Privacy (i.e. Medical Privacy).

"The free exercise of my religion in various contexts frees me, constrains me, liberates me, and guides me. Part of that exercise is that my walk is my own, and I don't force it on others. I know that's at variance with how a lot of people practice their religion."
EDITED TO ADD: To be clear, that's my quote of me, not what Speaker Pelosi said.

(10,638 posts)poised, classy, honest. I'd love to see a presser or interviewer ask a conservative about their religion and feeding the poor, child care, etc. I was really shocked her religion was called out

(30,807 posts)Rather than trap her into revealing some imagined hypocrisy, the question allowed her to give an excellent message that everyone should follow: think about your religion rather than blindly follow, make it your own, and don't impose it on others.

Way above we plebs.

(32,658 posts)The First Amendment's Establishment Clause prohibits the government from making any law respecting an establishment of religion. This clause not only forbids the government from establishing an official religion, but also prohibits government actions that unduly favor one religion over another. It also prohibits the government from unduly preferring religion over non-religion, or non-religion over religion.
She follows the Constitution, not the Church when it comes to law.

(314 posts)I like the idea of specifying which reporter asks a particular question and not referring to one single person as "The Press". This would be a more accurate depiction.

(10,638 posts)it was one person. Not sure who. I was doing something else until I heard Catholic and it then riveted my attention.

Maybe the pope needs a message to lay off Speaker Pelosi?

(6,017 posts)So, dont you accuse me of hate. And as a Catholic, I resent your using the word hate in a sentence that addresses me. I dont hate anyone. I was raised in a way that is full, a heart full of love, and always pray for the president. And I still pray for the president. I pray for the president all the time. So, dont mess with me when it comes to words like that.
- Nancy Pelosi on Dec 5th 2019 when asked if she hated Donald Trump,
To be honest, I wish she would feel / would have felt a little more animosity toward Trump, Bush-Cheney-Rove, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Republicans. But her levels of privilege have alleviated her from having to make that difficult choice. And so all too often, we've ended up with her making calls that don't seem to be fighting the same fight the rest of us are engaged in. She turns the other cheek and prays for Republicans while we lose Roe v Wade and other protections. This is and will remain to be a problem.
