(50,913 posts)I see they are not breaking their perfect streak of really stupid pandemic advice.
Every single thing they have said since the very beginning of the pandemic when they said, "Just wash your hands a lot and you'll be just fine."

What a concept!

(102,127 posts)and the votes were mixed, to say the least, on all possible measures.
While CDC rarely, if ever moves beyond this committee of independent experts, they certainly could revisit it quite quickly as more data comes in. CDC Director Wallensky COULD if she chose to move ahead now, but I'd guess that she won't.
I disagree with not including HCWs (as anyone who knows me would not be surprised to hear).

(101,271 posts)There is evidence it's fading for over 65s, so a booster makes sense for them. There's evidence that immunocompromised people didn't get great protection in the first place, and perhaps a 3rd jab may help.

(83,654 posts)My niece, ICU nurse, was vaccinated months before I was. I think they are making a huge mistake here. JMO.
I just don't get CDC.
What are they thinking?

(83,654 posts)We are back at square one when they said old people will be the ones dying. We all know that wasn't true then or now. Boosters are needed for all... not just from COVID itself but from the carriers that are anti vax and anti mask that are doing everything in their power to make us unsafe.
I have issues with the CDC. Yes this virus was a learning curve for them but I am not sure if they have learned anything at all.

(44,972 posts)Which means it can be prescribed off label. I hope that means health care workers can still get their shot.

(101,271 posts)The evidence from the English vaccines showed the effectiveness for under 65s holding up well over several months. It was the over 65s, with generally weaker immune systems, who had started to show a drop. It wasn't about them having longer since the shot.

(964 posts)What puts the elderly group at risk is that their immunity wanes. A 20-year old in health care is not in greater risk at the six-month point.

(44,972 posts)Most likely with Pfizer, since that was the first available. Pfizer's induced immunity wanes.

(5,268 posts)We have been seeing way too much confusing contradictory news regarding the boosters. Seems like there is too much preliminary coverage in the news given to the votes by CDC and FDA advisory boards before the final official recommendations are issued causing a lot of needless back and forth confusion to the public.
