This situation has been going on for decades, through Repub and Dem administrations. It seems to never get better.

(16,844 posts)The countries we're seeing the refugees come from have serious problems with corrupt governments, if they have any government at all. Of course, the U.S. doesn't want to go after the root of the problem, which is the American War on Drugs. Too many people are benefiting from the status quo. As long as we continue the War on Drugs, we will have a refugee problem.

(32,626 posts)these people left their homes. I don't know anything about how the border is 'normally' protected and what happens when people try to cross either legally or not....but it seems to me a large influx of people coming at the same time is organized. And there you get the when, where, why, and how again.

(50,557 posts)We should dispatch the entire House Freedom Caucus and the House Qanon Caucus to the border, plus 25 truly patriotic Republican senators.
This will do two things for us: it will let the Republicans think they're doing something useful by guarding the border, and with them 1800 miles away McConnell won't be able to block every fucking thing anyone tries to do.
