Over the last few days I have been watching a bunch of videos on police misconduct. Two regarding suspected domestic violence cases caught my interest and has some bearing on how the Moab officers responded.
In one of them a woman who a neighbor called a DV on refused to allow the police into her apartment to look for her boyfriend. They grab her as she attempted to prevent entry. Eventually she was taken away for resisting and assault. The boyfriend wasn't in the apartment.
In the other a woman left the car when she had a reported verbal argument with her boyfriend that another individual said was very physical (headlock etc). She was walking home when the police wanted to stop her and have her identify herself. She showed no visible marks and said she just wanted to go home. They then try to grab and restrain her. Eventually multiple officers restrain her and arrest her for resisting and some related charges. She later has a miscarriage.
Cops are tasked with following up aggressively on DV, but in these two cases the cops violated the rights of the women and used violence to subdue them and then charged them for resisting that violence.
