I was DISTURBED by Romney at the Al Smith Dinner

It seemed to me that his "jokes" were extremely nasty and weren't meant to be funny so much as actual attacks, and the loud cheering from his crowd seemed amplified, compared to Obamas much more good natured jokes and gentle laughter from his supporters. I came out of my chair with the insult to the First Lady when he said Obama had "Bill Clinton to turn to". I said out loud, for Chrissakes, man, he just insulted your WIFE! WALK THE FUCK OUT NOW"! But no, Obama came on with very bland gentlemanly barbs. Am I wrong? Did anyone else hear this the same way I did? If I'm wrong please correct me. But it seemed to me that to Romney and his crowd that this was not about what this dinner is supposed to stand for, it was used as a vicious attack on the President.

But I will say that he did not look comfortable in his own skin and Obama did. Obama's self-deprecating humor better fit the occasion and came across as classy. Mitt looked like the nouveau riche who wasn't quite at ease and wanted to be on the attack before someone could attack him.

... for Obama to walk out on the s.o.b.. I know it would be almost impossible, but to actually disrespect his wife was too much to bear. Another poster on here made the interesting observation that it sounded like Romneys jokes were written by slimebag Dennis Miller.

The "jokes" he made about Clinton, Biden, The "O" with $16 trillion dollar debt were not funny. He took it as an opportunity to attack his opponent under the guise of humor. But who was surprised? That is who he is : an aggressive, asshole bully.

He is getting nasty, trying to sneak kicks to the groin past the ref. Being in a loser position always brings out the worst in him, typical bully boy.

The nastier and less funny his "jokes" get, the better for us.

Romney is out there defeating Romney.

and Obama would have directed such an insult to Laura? I truly believe Bush would have walked out with his entourage. But, it is "O.K." to insult this President because he is black. It was for me another "You lie"! moment. The proper move, for any other President, would have been for him to turn and whisper to the Secret Service to remove the asshole from the room. Seeing Obama kick Romneys ass all over the floor in the last debate was balm for my soul.

His 'jokes' were vicious and unrelenting, and the audience was eating it right up.

One would think the audience, at some point, would have tempered their jolly laughter when realizing that Romney wasn't speaking the friendly spirit in which this dinner was meant to be.

I haven't heard one person mention this, but it troubled me greatly. Romney was all about disrespect toward the President; and the audience approved, imo.

It was a chance for people to see that rmoneys aren't capable of being friendly or self deprecating. his zingers toward the president kind of reminded me of the type of thing people did in high school when they were bullying those they thought were below them. Honestly it doesn't surprise me if rmoney acted that way, he seems to have built his life around getting to act that way.

BTW, the President did get some zingers of his own in. I'll have to see if I can dig up a link to my favorite.

The two debates, the Al Smith Dinner - Romney is a bully & he can barely contain it. If he manages to win somehow, he will be a terror on the global stage. And with his mean little sidekick Ryan - oh my. The world thought Bush-Cheney was bad? R&R will be so much worse.

That would have just shown everyone there it got to him. He's taken so much crap for so long.
Romney, however, is not a decent person so there is no need to give any credence to whatever comes out of one of his mouths.

Obama went on and showed Romney again, what it is to be human and decent.

I'm bracing myself for the end to this election. I have no idea what is going to happen but I am going to find out what it says about Americans, the media and every other player in politics. Either I will be grateful we won and utterly disgusted with the media, polls, moneyed interests, etc ....or we will not win and I will be utterly disgusted with the media, polls, moneyed interests, the education and cognitive dissonance of many of my fellow citizens.

I'm getting very tired of this whole charade. Never have I seen so much disdain for a sitting President by candidates, elected officials Shit...some of the Justices of the Supreme Court!, the MSM, the not so MSM; let alone the racists, hypocrits and just plain old got-nothin'-better to do'ers aka knuckle-dragging haters.

It's an ugly time and Romney is the King of Ugly.

Obama knows what to expect from this slimeball. He would not let Michelle be
exposed to it. Obama came off so much more polished and above the fray.

Earlier in the day I thought I heard the Bishop make public that there were
requests to uninvited Obama. If that is true, the Bishop is as big a slimeball
for making that public.

Katie Couric sure seemed to enjoy it. But then, her career is pretty
much over. No one is watching that awful new talk show she's on.
What will they give her next to fail at.

with undecideds. He was just nasty. But I've always thought (since the early 80s) that the Al Smith dinner is unpresidential, along with the the White House Correspondent's dinner. I don't want our officials mocking each other, their jobs and their duties and have it broadcast. That isn't the same as light-hearted self-deprecating humor on occasion. I remember Bush's jokes about not finding WMD, and I get nauseous. All those deaths are not a laughing matter.

that he was warm, funny, etc he and bush are amazing to me. how can you grow up with every advantage the world has to offer and still be a mean-spirited asshole with no class or character? i think rmoney, in addition to being an asshole and a bully is also a racist. i think it really bothers him that a black man is in the way of his destined place in the white house.
