'Vigilante treatments': Anti-vaccine groups push people to leave ICUs

NBC

Anti-vaccine Facebook groups have a new message for their community members: Don’t go to the emergency room, and get your loved ones out of intensive care units.

Consumed by conspiracy theories claiming that doctors are preventing unvaccinated patients from receiving miracle cures or are even killing them on purpose, some people in anti-vaccine and pro-ivermectin Facebook groups are telling those with Covid-19 to stay away from hospitals and instead try increasingly dangerous at-home treatments, according to posts seen by NBC News over the past few weeks.

....

Some people in groups that formed recently to promote the false cure ivermectin, an anti-parasite treatment, have claimed extracting Covid patients from hospitals is pivotal so that they can self-medicate at home with ivermectin. But as the patients begin to realize that ivermectin by itself is not effective, the groups have begun recommending a series of increasingly hazardous at-home treatments, such as gargling with iodine, and nebulizing and inhaling hydrogen peroxide, calling it part of a “protocol.”

On Tuesday, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America put out a warning against nebulizing hydrogen peroxide.

I hear the 3% from the drugstore is ineffective though - you need at least the 12% from the beauty store, or better yet 34.5% disinfectant grade... that'll put a shine on your lungs!

All concentrations of hydrogen peroxide have antimicrobial efficacy.
The higher the concentration the faster & more effective. Most of that is simple mass transfer, but the kinetics of oxidation are influenced by concentration. So, it's both mass & reactivity.
But, 3% peroxide would sanitize thoroughly. In seconds, not minutes.
In fact, that 3% stuff we buy at the drugstore is sold for it's antiseptic capability.
The problem, of course, with higher concentrations is that the higher we go the greater the handling hazard.
I've worked in the lab with 70% H2O2. That stuff will bite you if you're not careful. Trust me.
I once got a tiny drop of it under my fingernail! Wow! Did that sting!!! I doused with water and it still took 20 minutes to stop hurting.
I was wearing neoprene gloves while is was working with it so I never figured out how it happened.
For 70%, I took an old pair of safety shoes (not required in lab, but our development group did everything from 2 liter to 1,000 gallons for scale-up work. The other area is treated as any other manufacturing site.)
Anyway, I poured about 60ml of 70% peroxide on one of the shoes. In 30 seconds, the leather was smoldering. 30 seconds later, the shoe was on fire! I knew the chemistry said that would happen. But, I wanted to see it for myself, & I wanted the technicians to see it, so they'd maintain respect for that juice.

cures." The RWJNs will take these new and dangerous cures cuz they think it's an R creation and die. Then Ds can get on with seriously addressing climate change, income inequality, and all that stuff cuz there'll be less R opposition.

If they can keep out of hospitals and continue to die at current rate, then it may turn around the nasty politics that's infected this pandemic. We need this to straighten Americans into believing the science, the government and the media- just not faux noose.

How much effort will they expend to avoid working?

It's just shake-my-head exasperating to see the lengths these knuckleheads will go to in avoiding a free vaccine. Hydroxychloroquine! No, bleach! No, shove a light bulb up your ass! No, horse de-wormer! No, huff hydrogen peroxide!

It's like a huge segment of the population woke up one day and decided that supermarket tabloids offered far superior advice to that which you could get from one of them highfalutin' doctors.

If you have a passing familiarity with Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged then you are familiar with the concept of "the Rearden Metal." That's what I think this has become. The application here is that the people that are promoting Ivermectin and/or Hydroxychloroquine have this disease figured out -- but just as with Rearden's alloy railroad tracks, government stands in the way.

In the newer versions, you can buy some meds available in the day, and then there is a multiple choice question on how you want to treat:

Donald has dysentery

a) Administer fluids
b) Administer laudanum
c) Rest a while
d) Keep going

That seems to be how COVID is being treated in some circles.
