Chris Cuomo had to write an apology email to his former boss, veteran TV reporter Shelley Ross, after grabbing her rear-end at a party in 2005.
Ross spoke out about the incident in an op-ed piece for The New York Times published Friday morning. Ross, Cuomos boss at ABC News in the early 2000s, explained that she isnt trying to get the CNN anchor fired from his job, but decided she couldnt stay silent after seeing Cuomo escape accountability for advising his brother, disgraced former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, during his sexual-harassment scandal.
Ross wrote that the incident happened at a farewell party for an unnamed ABC News colleague in 2005. I was at the party with my husband, who sat behind me on an ottoman sipping his Diet Coke as I spoke with work friends, she recalled. When Mr. Cuomo entered the Upper West Side bar, he walked toward me and greeted me with a strong bear hug while lowering one hand to firmly grab and squeeze the cheek of my buttock.
The veteran reporter went on to write that, while he was grabbing her, Cuomo told her: I can do this now that youre no longer my boss. Ross wrote that she immediately rebuked Cuomo and pushed him away from her while stepping back, which revealed her husband sitting behind her. After the incident, Ross quickly left the party with her partner.

(33,284 posts)They think it is fun, and yes, they were brought up in an environment where such behavior was condoned: one of patriarchal privilege and power. Their Dad was Governor of NY.
I'd wager Chris Cuomo knows it's wrong now, 16 years later.

(15,325 posts)We'll see who emerges in his evening CNN spot since upper mgmt has now jumped the shark from half-reasonable reporting to full blown "anybody but a Democrat"
Of I outed every person who did/ said a sexist thing to me or my friends at an office or group party, wedding etc 16 yrs ago I'd have a list a mile long.
And none of them apologized to this day.
*Who's replacing Cuomo? Guess we'll know where the origins of this bs OMG!! piece began, when we see who replaces Cuomo on CNN.
How come only Democrats are publicly targeted & outed in a mad media push 'out the door' for sexism?
Tara reade tried it with Biden but found to be a liar with a past of lying...and now she's speaks to Russia Today.

(25,520 posts)who WAS raised right, I am grotesquely appalled by these behaviors. And you know what? Besides being GROSSLY INAPPROPRIATE, do these guys think that theyre being seductive? Like Charlie Rose and his open bathrobe. My God yuck.
Budi
(15,325 posts)It's the precise targeting that bothers me more.
We'll see who succeeds in claiming Cuomo's evening spot on CNN.

(9,068 posts)That both sons felt entitled to behave in this manner. I know Mario is beloved by many in the party, but eesh.
I said it before. I have no idea why CNN still employs him. Not like he has killer ratings. Colluding with a politician in a career-ending scandal should've been the finale there if they wanted to maintain any smidgen of credibility.

(11,629 posts)As if the workplace conflict of interest were the only reason he hadn't done so before. He did however apologize for the behavior afterward and it occurred 16 years ago so in my opinion doesn't warrant crucifixion but thats still a pretty fucked up thing to say when you are groping someone and shows a bizarre sense of entitlement.

AGENDA!!! ALERT!!!

(11,629 posts)I don't know what her agenda is but Cuomo doesn't deny the story and she actually accused Roger Ailes of sexual harrassment in a separate story in 2016.

(5,599 posts)Something he acknowledged and apologized for ( although cringey). Some things are cultural.
Anyone see The Wood? Guys bet friend to pinch a girls butt in the 80s or 90s. This and pulling bra straps were standard fare growing up. It wasnt right and we girls did not like it. But many boys were raised to think this was ok.
No one has a perfect past, and I guarantee many girls were traumatized by this. Some boys who are upstanding me today did these things if you are a certain age. I dont think boys are doing these things now because it is not the social norm.
She obviously wants him to be fired even though she says she doesnt. In this era we have no latitude.
