posted her kids and husband have tested positive for the virus. She says she is negative. One of the family is symptomatic. Still inside the deadline for getting vaxxed or canned. Ugh. I dont understand.

(62,346 posts)you would have hoped that one of the most important lessons they would have learned in their health care education would have been that proven vaccines can stop all sorts of really nasty pandemics.
But apparently they missed that day.
I would think that not knowing that very basic fact as a health care worker should be grounds for dismissal.

(7,447 posts)she's not a bad person, but her decision making apparatus is busted.
She still owes me 3K I loaned her so she wouldn't lose her kids to a bogus claim from her ex. I never expected the money back, and I never loan money expecting to be paid back to be honest, but it's just an example of poor choices.
I can't be a party to that anymore. She doesn't listen.

(20 posts)She won't get vaccinated because she's afraid it'll make her sterile, even though that's been debunked repeatedly. So because she's a nurse, her parents are following her lead and they won't get vaccinated either.
She left some printouts at my mother-in-laws house that turned out to be right wing anti-vax propaganda she claims to have gotten from her place of work. Luckily my mother-in-law didn't buy in and has since received her shots.
It's funny how this changes your perspective. I used to really like these folks and had fun hanging out with them on occasion. Now I can't unsee the stupid and don't want to be around them at all.
All that to say, I don't understand the stupid either.

(58,785 posts)Imo, that's most of what needs to be understood. tRump defined their tribe as those who chose "freedom" and refused Democrats' attempts to trick them into protecting against the virus hoax. Some don't have strong feelings, but are going along with their friends and others around them.
There are LW tribes/factions also, of course. They tend to be at least somewhat to strongly anti-establishment, anti-FDA, anti-Big Pharm, and also often anywhere from somewhat suspicious and untrusting of Democrats to strongly.
In any case, hostile factionalism is behind most of this. Scratch your coworker and she'll almost certainly fit into one one of these factionalism-driven types.
What's so shocking, of course, is how strong and irrational it is for so many, even to endangering loved ones.
