..it's already here. I really didn't need the Washington Post to tell me that.https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/09/23/robert-kagan-constitutional-crisis/?request-id=696c722c-d29b-4d88-befe-e2fa4d74d578&pml=1

(51,567 posts)to admit it...very scary on many levels. I hear it from my family and neighbors. Everyone is frightened over this.

I didn't check the figure for Republicans because I wouldn't believe them anyway. I think they're realizing they can actually win this thing after decades of angrily losing to change and "the arc of the moral universe," and I'm afraid most tRump voters will become more engaged and more committed to a RW coup d'etat.
How many of them and others will oppose evough to vote to save our democracy?

(51,567 posts)If we can stand in long lines during a pandemic we can do it again without a pandemic (hopefully Covid will not be an issue in 3 years).
If the GQP supports morons like Larry Elder in the CA governor recall, there will be more Dems voting. They backed the wrong horse on that one.
And I am optimistic that something terrible will happen to tRump and he won't be able to run. Fingers crossed.

(58,785 posts)craziness, the leaders who held back during the insurrection now committed to embracing trumpism to power a RW takeover. With a party gone sociopathic and its out-of-control cray-cray voters, I think we can safely assume plenty more Elders will be among the predators pushing in.
Best if tRump drops dead altogether, though I'm not at all sure they wouldn't just prop his body up so "his people" could cheer it. McConnell and others would prefer that to a live tRump. Which they might just get if they were to win control of congress in 2022, guaranteeing tRump would expect them to anoint him in 2024.
I'm also scared but optimistic that more people, slow to realize "it" can happen here, will vote so it won't.
just to let others know

(1,786 posts)And, like the article says, it will be without protest from any Republican. Even the moral ones will slink quietly into the background.
We might need a call to arms, or else we will see massive Democrats thrown in jail and/or executed. And I don't think I am being hyperbolic here.
The last insurrection was just a practice run.
