yesterday a diner was like oh you guys are shortstaffed were having that same problem too in Ohio where is everyone who used to work in restaurants?? and I said well more than half a million people died maybe some of them worked in restaurants enjoy your meal!

(6,150 posts)That definitely has affected the workforce. I am sure that's why we have a national shortage of school bus drivers. Many of them were retirees.
And, of course, hundreds of thousands more have long haul covid.
Not to mention those in hospitals or recovering at home.
And also all those people who no longer want to work in a job that brings them before lots of people who may, or may not, be vaccinated.
It's the service areas that are most affected by short staffing.
This isn't going to change for quite some time.

(2,787 posts)The number of severly injured from covid is much larger than the death rate. I'd guess 5-20 times as many. So 3 million up to 15 million now more unhealthy. This will have national setback for 20 to 40 years.
