BOSTON AP: Judge denies state police union bid for vaccination delay

BOSTON (AP) — A Superior Court judge has turned down a request by the union that represents 1,800 Massachusetts State Police troopers to delay Gov. Charlie Baker’s state employee coronavirus vaccine mandate.

The State Police Association of Massachusetts filed a lawsuit last week saying the Oct. 17 deadline would cause troopers “irreparable harm” and they wanted more time to “negotiate the terms and conditions of their employment.”

A delay in implementation of the mandate would not serve the public interest, Judge Jackie Cowin said in Thursday’s decision.

“Specifically, the public interest is, unquestionably, best served by stopping the spread of the virus, in order to protect people from becoming ill, ensure adequate supply of medical services, and curtail the emergence of new, deadlier variants of the virus,” the decision said.

9. well, i live in chicago, so...

yeah, i have a dim view of them. i've had run ins w them, and found them to mostly be entitled jerks. and rw'ers. most have been maskholes.
was in my local station about a month ago. in an interrogation room. there was a dole kemp bumper sticker on a locker in the room. i dont even know how they find enough rw'ers to staff a department the size of chicago's. but they seem to.

that said, my ex is now married to a retired chicago cop. she's a good egg, and rly glad to not be a cop any more.
there are a lot of women and people of color on the force. the ones i have met have been closer to 50-50 jerks than the 90-10 of the white male cops.
a lot of them end up in non-contact jobs, sorta hidden. school cops and desk jockeys.

Sorry, but I’ve known too many bad cops that are racists, bullies, and think their badge gives them the right to be judge, jury, and executioner. This is just another example of them displaying their belief that they are above the law.
