(86,040 posts)I heard a conversation, well sort of heard, about that and now I can't recall what they said.
I had the Moderna shot and plan to wait for info on whether a booster is needed or not. I don't think there's much info about that yet.

Mixing coronavirus vaccine brands is OK, Canada says
The Public Health Agency of Canada said people who received an AstraZeneca vaccine for the first dose may get either a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine for the second dose. People who received one of the two mRNA vaccines -- Pfizer's or Moderna's -- may get either of the two brands for the second dose.
It is still optimal, however, to use the same brand of vaccine for both doses, the country's top doctor said.

(16,820 posts)I got my Moderna booster already, which is nothing more than an extra shot of the same stuff you get with the first Moderna shot. It was approved for people who are immune compromised, so that's how I got it. They insisted on seeing my vaccine card before they would give it to me, though. I had to go back home and bring it back to the pharmacy before she would give me the shot. She said that it was so she could see that I was getting a booster that matched my previous shots.

(143,998 posts)He is in amazing shape but got vaccinate early on because his wife is an ER doc. By mistake he got one shot of each vaccine. My friend was sick for a day but was lifting weights two days later. The doctor at the clinic realized the mistake and did an antibody test. My friend had a very high level of antibodies.
There has been some investigation about mixing vaccines but they have not got enough data

(10,885 posts)the vaccines should not be mixed. With it being offered in so many places now, I'd think it shouldn't be too difficult to find the same vaccine for the booster.
I've had three Modernas, and just got my flu shot this week. Bugs Beware!

(101,705 posts)recommend it. Sometime in the future, that may be shown to be fine to do--perhaps even providing a better immune response, but we don't know that for sure so providers should not be doing it (and my guess is that 99% plus will not).
