2. There is a lot of stupid in this video for a higher education setting.

The dudes are clearly trolling, but kicking people out of a multicultural space due to their skin color seems like a bad look.

certain areas for those who aren't white. They used to do that shit here in the South, but it was deemed discriminatory. Now there are people asking to be segregated? Weird!

And missed this trend on campuses where there are spaces where POC can congregate and be free of those bearing racist "Police Lives Matter" crap designed to provoke

12. I was in college 30 years ago.

We all studied in the same space back then. Nowadays it seems like everything is political. Going to the library is political. I’m glad I’m not in college now. People are provoking other people and then others are too sensitive about what they see other people wearing or stickers they have on their possessions. I think we acted a lot more like grownups when I was in college.

13. "Others are too sensitive"?! That space is DESIGNATED as a safe space

As the young woman pointed out in the video, these racist trolls have EVERYWHERE else on campus to go and be trolls but that place.

They chose to be racist trolls there.

The woman telling them to get out isn't being "too sensitive", she's protecting an area that's officially designated to be free of racist assholes

15. Actually, that space is has no official sanction from ASU

The organization promoting it, which is pretty much that one woman, is not an officially recognized by the University either, and she had no authority to tell someone they couldn't be there.

Are you asking is this video is educating or harassing? And if harassing, harassing to whom?

I hope you’re not asking if the black students are harassing the white students, because if so, you are most certainly taking a disturbing stance on what is going on here.

11. Those two white male students are trolling.

They're also feigning ignorance of that fact. It's not a secret that that space is designated as a multi-cultural safe zone, I'm certain. So, their clothing and the "Police Lives Matter" laptop were chosen by those two for their trolling effect.

They're just being racist, right-wing assholes and should be tossed from that area, it seems to me.

Get out, dudes!

16. They drew the foul, and it has backfired horribly for the women

The main woman in the video has had her bio removed from the ASU Global Sustainability site, and may face discipline under the University code of conduct.

It makes my blood boil when I see Trump flags or anti-Biden stickers, but I maintain my composure.

By saying "this white guy thinks he can invade our space", the group has probably torpedoed their efforts to get an actual Multicultural Center at ASU.

18. Therein lies the systemic racism...

I agree that the young woman allowed the emotions of the event to get to her. However, the provocation should not go unpunished either.

My son has a habit of provoking his younger sister, who has some difficulties controlling her impulses. She is more likely to strike out physically, which is not okay. As part of the intervention into one of their episodes, we correct and give consequences to our daughter because violence is not acceptable, unless in defense of your life. We also give my son a consequence because he intentionally provoked the conflict. He thinks we are not smart enough to understand the dynamics of conflict and that we see the physical attack but can't find out why our daughter felt compelled to do so.

The White male students deliberately provoked that conflict, likely comfortable with the idea that they would be perceived as "victims of irrational minorities" and that appears to be exactly the response of the school. Her actions were likely not a good idea, but they were a response to a completely deliberate provocation based on the knowledge that systemic racism would protect the offenders. "I am not doing anything but wearing a shirt and having a sticker on my computer. Something tells me that those guys would not wear that shirt or display that sticker in areas of Tempe where people of color hang out. The whole campus is a safe space for White guys.

The idea that one incident "probably torpedoed their efforts..." also shows that the expectation is for people of color to continue to grin and bear deliberate acts of racial animosity. It is on us to control ourselves while those assholes get to do what they want. How is that acceptable?

need safe spaces. It is NOT racist for the oppressed to voluntarily separate themselves. These white frat boys were harassing minorities in an area where they did not belong and should be disciplined by the university.

17. Neither. This is a video where students of color are confronting trolls.
Wed Sep 29, 2021, 01:15 PM

Are the students of color doing so in an effective way? To my eyes, no. These are clearly White students who knew exactly where they were and what the space signified. The young woman speaking, is articulating the points relatively accurately, however, the emotion of the situation seems apparently to be getting to her. My style would be to ask questions and make the trolls clarify their reasons for dressing like they are and doing what they are doing. Then again, that is just my style, which I have learned to adopt through trial and error and life experience.

The question is and should be, Why do White men need to go into a space they know is typically used by people of color, with provocative clothing? What is the point?

Also, the White men were not asked to leave "the Library" they were told that that particular section of the library was typically a space where people of color study. I saw another poster say that there is no official space designated as such, however, based on the presence of the men and their obviously chosen clothing, they knew what that space was.
