1. I started seeing a therapist and told her The Soprano's was part of my inspiration.
That's not unusual she said. A lot of men got the idea they could from that show.
It's no big deal. I had a little rough patch and had that in mind if it happened again. Partly because overall things have been going well, and I want to make sure it keeps going that way. Those scenes with his therapist were usually great! |

2. That is very interesting.
I didn't know that it was an inspiration for men. That's good. I'm glad it helped you too.
![]() I also loved Tony's scenes with Dr. Melfi. It was very realistic. Their relationship was one of the best arcs of that show. IMO |

9. I'm so glad that helped you!
I'm currently back in school to be a psychologist/therapist (still weighing the specific end game). I've never seen the show, but people keep saying I should watch it specifically for that, so it's on the list.
I wish more people would avail themselves of therapy, especially men. I struggled with depression most of my adult life. A lot of it had to do with unresolved issues from growing up a gay man. When my father died suddenly a few years ago, the grief just tipped everything right over the edge. It wasn't struggling with depression, it was being drowned by it. So, the choices were, "Ok, do I drink my way through this, or do I go see someone and talk it all out?" I went to see someone, and it helped so immeasurably. One of the strangest things is how major depression gradually morphed into healthy moods. Everyone gets the blues. Now, I'll just get the blues sometimes and not that full-blown, soul-rending thing that was ever present and could weigh down your entire life. It's a night and day difference. And when that lurks, I now have the skills and knowledge on how to maneuver around it. I love my therapist and want to be able to do the same thing for others that he did for me. So . . . yeah, exams and papers are life right now. So happy that you had the wherewithal to take that option. |

14. Congratulations! I retired from being a therapist a few years ago
and still teach at a training institute. It’s a good, demanding, sobering, satisfying profession. And we need good people more than ever. The world is very hard on people these days.
Best of luck! |

4. HBO Max has all the old HBO shows
Pretty much anything that ever aired on it.
I've been watching the Leftovers lately. |

6. Yes. It continues thru next Thursday
It's on HBO and HBO Max.
It's still great to watch years later. Looking forward to the prequel - "The Many Saints of Newark" too. |

7. Yes, I heard about that. James' son is playing him.
I had the distinct honor of meeting Mr. Gandolfini on set; my friend's hubby was the key grip and we went and watched one day.

8. Oh that must've been exciting. I would've had shaky knees being in his presence.
Tony Soprano was one of the most memorable characters in TV history. No one else could've played him.

15. Been watching too. Did you notice the production assistant
named Steve Kornacki? I almost choked on my martini! No, not the same guy. Apparently he’s got a long history in TV writing too.
