MODERN civilization... MAYBE. But our way of life is not the only way of life. If 99% of humans die off, that still leaves us humans. Humanity may continue for millions of years as smaller local groups.

In comprehending the vast geologic time scale of the planet. Understandable - look top, centre of this diagram. That's our history compared to Earth's 4.5 billion years.
