I’m glad I’m old, too. Don’t want to be around long enough to see our precious democracy completely destroyed.

but hopefully they will try to fight. I tell them all the time when they're old enough to vote, vote for democrats. Republicans are never going to help you.

and maybe spend a month or two in jail, but no one important or well-known.

The rest will be free and clear to do it the next time.

I wish I had faith that anyone had the will to stop them, but even a couple of Federal Judges are expressing surprise at the light sentences the prosecution is recommending.

who assaulted cops will get hefty sentences, which is good. Also some of the oath keepers have been charged with felonies related to conspiracy which will carry a decent sentence. Most of the others won’t get significant time in jail because they committed misdemeanors and are first time offenders. That’s just how it goes, unfortunately.

but I'm not counting on it.

Better to prepare for the worst and hope for better.

I remember believing that Mueller would make a difference. Nope.

That someone would curb the worst of TFG's abuses. Nope.

That there were some decent Republicans. Nope.

What does it mean that our democracy has failed ?
Lawlessness is accepted for republicans but working class democrats still go to jail for breaking the law ?

At this time, because there still is a little bit. When scum like Manafort do dozens of felonies they sometimes do some time.

To me if we don't jail wannabee democracy destroyers this will be where we failed. Let it be written.

The fact that Republicans are getting away with voting restriction laws and challenging past elections kinda proves that.

Politicians have been imposing voter restrictions (some far worse than anything we're looking at now) and contesting election outcomes (so far, unsuccessfully) and democracy continued rolling along with its flawed self.

But one sure fire way to destroy a democracy is to convince people that it has already failed when it hasn't, as you seem to be trying to do now.
