Van Buren County health officials: HS senior dies from COVID

LAWRENCE, MI – An 18-year-old Decatur High School senior died from COVID-19 this week, prompting health officials to renew a call for vaccinations.

The Van Buren Cass District Health Department confirmed the COVID-19 associated death on Friday, Sept. 24, the first such reported during the region’s fourth surge of the virus.

“The death of a local student is a tragic reminder that the numbers we report every week are also our children, friends and neighbors, and that no one is immune to the virus’ impact,” said a statement from Van Buren and Cass County health officer Danielle Persky ...
