"It's never going away", overheard by gaggle of maskless Massholes in Peterborough, NH today

Downtown Peterborough was inundated with cars with Massachusetts license plates today. In one of the local shops, there was a group of four women, presumably from Massachusetts, unmasked and certainly not adhering to local standards, and I heard one of them say loudly, “well it’s never going away” I hear the others, laugh and agree.

I realize one of the ways of looking at this from these peoples perspectives is that if it’s not going away, then there’s no point in protecting oneself. The problem is, they’re idiots. We could’ve said smallpox is not going away, polio is not going away, measles, mumps, rubella, not going away. But we didn’t, because modern immunology is amazing and actually gives us a chance to push this thing away.

The misinformation and disinformation is evil, being continually pushed forth by people with an agenda that is not in humanities best interest.

And oddly enough, it’s these people who are the sheep, not able to process anything outside of their herd.

In this case, if it's never going away, then the need for masks and vaccines will never go away. Basically they're trying to say 95% effective isn't 100% effective so let's do the 0% effective strategy.

for at least one shot. That's second only to HI.

Yes, we have our covidiots, but it seems we are successfully exporting them to areas with lower standards.

Massachusetts in general has great politics and a great record on most things I care about.

I will say though, Vermont puts us all to shame. They’re masking, at least in the Brattleboro area, is just a given.

It's been stuck at 61% for months. It is 'pretty good' compared to places that are 'really shitty', unless you think being number 13 and getting a participation trophy is 'winning'.

your state is putting the squeeze on vaxholes, like a pimple, so they don’t have anywhere to go, except to pop - pimple-like - into an adjacent state.

And just for that, peeper season is officially cancelled. So stay home. We're taking the leaves down as I type this.

And our vax rates across the region are about as good as yours if not better. We in VT hit 80% first shot back in freaking May and have the lowest covid impact per 100K than any other state due to the stellar work of our state government since pandemic day 1.

Those women clearly don’t care about anyone but themselves. Between TFG and COVID even I was surprised how many of those people exist here.

But being maskless means they might be endangering others. I guess it's possible this person was vaccinated.

It may very well not go away. It may be something we have to be on guard about for a very long time. That doesn't mean you put others at risk.

It's too bad that people feel so powerless. Fact is: on this one, how people behave matters. the duration of the pandemic depends on people behaving responsibly.

I have to say, you’re right, it’s possible one or all four of them were vaccinated. But, though I try not to be judgmental, they just didn’t have that immune response ready look about them.

On one hand, I hate their ignorance, closed mindedness, arrogance and sense of superiority, yet I feel sorry for how foolish they truly are. They’re just asking the receive the pain may come their and don’t have the sense to protect themselves and their loved ones.

At this point, I think I.D. docs, epidemiologists and immunologists are not in any kind of concensus about where no where this is going or where it could go if we do vaccinate universally or fail to do so.

But it’s like climate change, whether it will help or not, it serves our species’ best interest to do all we can to head it off.

I see the license plates and immediately wonder if they're Covid spreaders. Guess all we can do is protect ourselves until they go away again.
