Im not getting my hopes up, but he could drop dead at any time. The gop has become a cult of personality. I dont thing any of the current RW could step in and take his place. Maybe therell be bitter Infighting that would greatly damage the R party. Would he end up being some sort of martyr? Even if he doesnt die his dementia or whatever he has might get so bad hell have to be hidden from view. Id love to see him croak but Id hope he suffers a lot first.

I'm reluctant to make this comparison, but consider that the Nazi Party failed to survive Hitler. The government, the apparatus was in place. (OK, Germany losing WWII and the Marshall Plan had something to do with it, but Hitler was gone and not coming back.)
As much as I can theorize that the sweaty masses will be searching for a NEW leader, s/he won't have the same charisma as FTG. Not Jr. Not Ivanka. Not DeSantis. Not Abbott. Not Cruz.
It IS a cult of personality, not ideas.

Naziism didn't die because Hilter died.
Had they won the war and maintained control of Europe, when Hitler died someone like Geobbles would have taken over and kept the show going.
So, that is not a great comparison in that regard.
But, to your point, clearly 45 is the load star, and there is not clear next in line.
But, he didn't create all of this - he simply just plugged into the half century of right wing jackassery that led to most of the country falling for "conservative" bullshit and letting themselves be brainwashed.
That won't go away if 45 dies - all these people and frankly a majority of the "independents" know is that us liberals are god and country hating scumbags, and anything is acceptable if defeating us.
Not sure who is next up, but SOMEONE will eagerly take the mantle, and the same idiots who over night went from despising 45 (and they did) to worshiping him will dutifully get behind him.

It still boggles my my that so many people worship that bloated, moronic freak, or that there were enough of them to allow his to steal the presidency for four years and lay the country to waste.
smb
(3,471 posts)I can absolutely see that happening. There will be all kinds of conspiracy theories about where he REALLY is and when he is going to come back and "make America great again" again.

All of our living presidents would never show up as they did for George HW Bush, he said horrible things about all of them (not to mention their wives). And who would speak for him and what could they say? His kids? If he's not already jailed himself, many of his "followers," in and out of government, would likely be jailed, too. He might rate a newspaper article or a day of lies on Fox News.

(93 posts)Regardless of the circumstances, at least some of his followers are bound to believe there was some conspiracy to have him murdered. It won't matter that he's mid '70s, obese, and probably on a cocktail of stimulants and other questionably prescribed drugs.
Unfortunately it seems like there are any number of like-minded politicians who would opportunistically try to fill that vacuum. I don't think any of them though are resourceful enough to have the same impact.
There are obviously a number of elected officials/politicians who genuinely support Trump. On the other hand, there appear to be more than just a few who are simply afraid to oppose him, while others have only chained their wagon to his horse because it would be politically catastrophic for them not to.
I think there will eventually be some power plays and lots of internal fighting over who succeeds him. You know, MAGAt versions of Hillary versus Bernie. I would also expect the forever establishment GOP to try to regain control of their own party. When Trump goes, it'll be the next phase of the Republican civil war.

(12,436 posts)All we know is that he's like 75... and we can only refer to his WH Physical in 2020 after the bout with C19 (one can assume it's false, I guess)
According to that, he's on a Cholesterol med and his HDL/LDL are at a healthy level.
He has healthy blood pressure unmedicated...
He's had a recent EKG and CBC Blood Panel...
I mean I guess we can whip out some memes to counter the facts arguing that 2-scoops and fat ass and hamburgers and stuff but does it change the facts as we know them?
And as an aside... as you, I'm sure... I've know many people in my life. I've known athletes who've dropped dead at 38... I've known 83 year old people who eat steak and potatoes daily and never exercise.
And the only "reason" is judging the facts actually IN evidence, how about you?

Despite the lip service about RAYGUN, generations are in place who don't even know who RAYGUN is, so a pipsqueak like Drumpf has even less to keep him memorialized, even less as a "martyr".
******* As for happy reactions to his croaking, two options:
1- During FDR's hey day, a Big Business type would stop at a news stand every morning, buy a folded paper, glance at the top half, utter a cuss word and throw it all in the trash. Finally the seller asked him what it was all about. He said he was looking for a certain obituary. The seller said that the obits were deep inside the paper. The fatcat said, "The one I'm looking for will be on Page One above the fold!"
2- (My fave: ) Bette DAVIS said when informed of Joan CRAWFORD's death, "My mother always said never to speak ill of the dead, only good. Joan CRAWFORD is dead. Good."

(12,436 posts)the mistake is to believe that Trump started something or stood for something.
This arguably started pre-Reagan.
I'd say it started with the WW2 generation in the 50's and their reaction to change in society. They grew into more powerful positions by the 60's and the "Proud Boys" of today were the straight laced men of the 60's cursing the hippies and the anti-war movement.
They spawned Goldwater and Reagan... which led straight to Limbaugh, Shrub and Trump
Trump didn't start this and it won't end with his absence. The only thing that WILL erase modern day "right-wing" culture is time. The younger generations appear to have no interest in it.
