"SNIP.......
Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Katie Porter (D-CA) reiterate in a CNN op-ed that they will not vote for the bipartisan infrastructure bill until after the budget reconciliation companion bill is passed.
Punchbowl News: This op-ed has three signatories. Speaker Nancy Pelosi has a three-seat margin in the House. Of course, some Republicans will vote for infrastructure, so it still could pass if these Democrats vote no. But well have to see how many Democrats stand with these progressive leaders.

(68,456 posts)Sinema...I really don't. Also, except for Porter, they are in safe blue districts. And this is why we can't have nice things in terms of policy.

(68,456 posts)senate which is likely then we have another Democratic president with his hands tied. If we have nothing before the midterms, we are going to lose. I sincerely hope the joy you feel in having 'shown' Manchin and Sinema will continue when we lose Congress and the GOP gets another SCOTUS pick. And Katie Porter is in some trouble in her district... redistricting. I don't know if she can win if she votes against a bi-partisan bill.

(19,948 posts)Bipartisan Bill without modification. They have also been entirely consistent in insisting on the Infrastructure passing first, because guess what ? They feared that they would be fucked over if they let the Bipartisan bill through first, and guess what ? The Conservative Democrats are trying to fuck them over by insisting that the Bipartisan Bill is pushed through, and then the Progressives have no leverage. This was agreed to and now we know why Progressives had insisted on this point.
The Democrats need to be able to show they can produce things that Democratic supporters have wanted for a long time, no more failure. It's poop or get off the pot time, and even if what you said about Porter was the case, I'm even more impressed by her bravery.

(15,548 posts)As opposed to Gottheimer and his Sabotage Squad, who have threatened to kill the reconciliation bill, and thus kill Bidens legislative agenda, by passing the bipartisan bill first, removing any leverage to pass the reconciliation bill.

(68,456 posts)for the moderates who gave us the majority and will be in serious trouble without the bipartisan bill. Normally I would send Congresswoman Porter money as she is in a tough fight...but I won't if she votes against the bipartisan bill.

(15,548 posts)I dont know any other moderates who are pushing to decouple the two bills.

(32,626 posts)Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced her intention that the House vote this week on a transformative economic package and a major investment in infrastructure. Congress now faces a choice: advance the entirety of an agenda that gets American families the help they need, or deliver only a fraction of it. That's why we, as leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, remain committed to voting for the infrastructure bill only after the Build Back Better Act is passed.
it's less than half a loaf, it's just the heel. But then maybe a heel of bread is better than half a loaf?
