And about one third of American voters are buying this snake oil.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE???
Given the voter suppression laws being passed in too many states, plus current gerrymandering, we could well lose control of the House in 2022. And if we do, we can kiss goodbye to the Senate and the Presidency in 2024. "Get Out The Vote" won't mean shit when states with Republican legislatures are the ones who get to decide who "won."
At this moment, the Democratic Party controls the House and Senate (sort of). And my take on that is, SO FUCKING WHAT. They're busy stepping on their own dicks while the Republicans are licking their chops and waiting until they can once again do, -- whatever they want to do.
If you think this is overblown rhetoric, try to remember this post three or four years from now when all your freedoms are gone and America is a total dictatorship.
The maniac of Mar-a-Lago and his street thugs are watching, waiting and looking forward with joy to the horrors they want to inflict on us.
Joe; Democrats in Washington; elected Democrats everywhere; listen to what I'm saying: WE ARE ON THE VERGE OF LOSING OUR DEMOCRACY. You have control for the moment. You are the only ones in a position to stop the oncoming terror. DO SOMETHING. DO IT NOW.

(31,106 posts)You mean Joe Manchin, right? Not Biden, right?
The President and 98% of the Democratic Party are for getting rid of the filibuster but Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema are not, otherwise we could and would save America.
We wont if they dont get their shit together. We will be in GRAVE danger otherwise.
It is OVER otherwise.

(15,027 posts)The total power of the presidency, along with that of Senate leaders, is incredible. Lyndon Johnson, Bill Clinton, and (I believe) Barack Obama, would have come down on Manchin and Sinema with a sledge hammer.
Do you really believe Manchin and Sinema don't have "buried bodies." It's past time for Dems to stop playing Mr. Nice Guy. We're close to the point where they either use their power of lose it. And if they lose it, it's over for all of us.

President Obama had larger majorities in the Senate and House in the first part of his first term, and while he was able to pass the ACA, it was VERY watered down, included no public option, and unfortunately because of the perceived "lack of ability" to get things done, we lost both the House and Senate in the 2010 midterms. He did not "come down like a sledge hammer" on any congress people. Bill Clinton signed the repeal of Glass-Stegal, Don't Ask Don't Tell, and the Telecommunications Act of 1996 where right wingers were allowed to buy up tons of media outlets, spreading right wing bullshit far and wide.
Johnson I will give you. Johnson, from his years in the Senate, had a reputation as a "son of a bitch" and was very good at twisting arms. His moral courage however, failed him at a critical period in US history. He knew that Nixon was conspiring with Vietnam to scuttle Peace Talks, which had they gone through and ended the disastrous war, might have given McGovern (the anti-war candidate) a fighting chance in 1968. He sat on it, Nixon blew McGovern out, and paved the way for future right wing insurgency.
I agree that we need to get rid of the filibuster. I agree that the country is in peril. I just disagree with the flailing and blaming of Joe Biden and "the Democrats" and of this notion that somehow, other Democratic leaders would have gotten things done where Biden can't or won't. Democrats are always constrained by the idea of fighting within the system, where Republicans do not give one shit about the system, only about power. It is something that needs to be addressed.

(4,310 posts)when the monkey business between Nixon and the North Vietnamese happened, late in the 1968 campaign. Yes, Johnson found out about it, but sat on the information.
Nixon defeated George McGovern in the 1972 election.

(53,741 posts)and wouldn't have given Manchin and Sinema a thought. Obama only had a majority in the Senate for a few, non-contiguous months but still managed to get the ACA passed despite McTurtle's attempts to make him a one-term president. Sinema was still running around as a member of the Greene party, the party which only exist to siphon votes from Democrats so republicans win. I don't believe Manchin was in the Senate yet.
The President, Schumer and Speaker Pelosi have a much harder job dealing with these two DINOs but they'll get it done. This week.
Just be patience, understand the situation and try cooling the rhetoric against Democrat. Get on board.

Seems like it works for McConnell to keep the GOP in line.
It feels like Congressional & Party leadership - and all the other politicians involved - are just watching, hoping and ready to say, "tsk, tsk" when it doesn't go right.
It doesn't feel like they're really in the same fight as the rest of us.

(46,684 posts)because they work it out through the back channels. So, while we're here calling them insane, and trying to find ways to reason with them, they're gaming the process to control this country through a minority.
The only way to beat them is to take them to court. Because we didn't do it sooner, they now can count on right-wing judges, so it's going to be harder.
