...the DOJ Investigation into Trump et.al, or stall also the Jan 6 Committee investigation?
Is this why they're risking it all with a shutdown & economic collapse?
Other than to just oppose Biden.& land it all on his legacy.
Just asking if stalling the investigations may be a bigger factor.

(15,325 posts)...is absolutely the top priority.
Shut it all down before the 1st subpoenas are delivered.
I guess Jan 6 was a good clue as to how desperate & determined they are.
When so many involved sit in the House & Senate & most powerful positions in govt, themselves, they'd collapse & kill the US economy completely to shield the criminal organization they are all beholden to.

This is some seriously high stakes game we're witnessing.

(18,486 posts)It probably would not stop the investigation.
Investigators and prosecutors are likely considered - or can be designated - essential employees. If so, their work would continue. It doesn't affect members and Senators and I don't believe it affects all congressional staffers because they're paid out of a different part of the budget.
I don't think the shut down will stop the investigations.

(18,486 posts)But from past experience, key Congressional staff continued to work and prosecutors and investigators in criminal investigations are considered essential and worked without pay (although they did eventually receive back pay).
I'm not sure what will happen this time if there is a shutdown - it will be interesting to see.

(15,325 posts)How is that any different from whats going on now when everyones at work and being paid?
Budi
(15,325 posts)Just as the Jan 6 Committee is about to send out it's 1st subpoenas.
From upthread, it appears the investigations would proceed, so my question has been answered, although I suspect they'll pull out all the possible tricks in the mob book, as a ladt ditch effort to save their thin skins.
