So, I am assuming he's currently living a life that he's not accustom to. He's probably an example of prudence and is a good standing citizen in his community, knowing that if he slips up, someone's cell phone can record the ammunition to knock him off the bench.
I'm wondering, how long can he hold onto this pretense? Especially when we had right-wing judges in the past who acted like Borgia Popes, who managed to escape consequences because the right-wing were more powerful than they are today. And the Supreme Court was not as vulnerable to criticism, as it is today.
Maybe it will be some crazy night on Octoberfest, when we'll see Kavanaugh reveal himself for the person he is.
"I like beer." Indeed.

(26,731 posts)He isn't in any danger at all... and likely lives like it.
People have been saying things like that about Thomas for 30 years... and all that's happened is that he's now the de-facto chief justice on many matters.
He's going nowhere. Unfortunately, we're stuck with him.

(46,703 posts)It was never meant to be an imbalanced branch of our triumvirate system. And how the Republicans went about imbalancing that court added to the stench it now carries.

(26,731 posts)... but it has not thing one to do with Kavanaugh being in any danger of losing he seat on the court.

(46,703 posts)credence to their institution. One option is acknowledging either Kavanaugh's or Barrett's improper ascendance to the court.

(26,731 posts)Enjoy the fantasy. Because that's all that it is.
Not even the three liberals on the court question how "proper" his "ascendance" is.
Poll numbers are not going to change that one iota. The court was designed explicitly to not care about public opinion.

(46,703 posts)And that has been by treachery and design. There has to be legal consequences for the intentional political direction they are going to take this country, sometimes using an interpretation of the law that is as lucid as speaking in tongues. I know that Supreme Court justices have been able to avoid legal consequences for their actions in the past, but it's never been this bad.
And it will begin with public opinion. We have already pushed back on Thomas' and Barrett's insistence that the Supreme court is not ruled by politics (paraphrasing). And we need to keep pushing back when they spew such horseshit. The one thing that should be clear for them to see, is that their legacy is soiled.

(92 posts)he has a criminal past of any kind. If so documents of that sort are very public. I suspect he's living just the way he wants

Rich, white, right wing man. It doesn't matter what he does.
"Vulnerable to criticism"? In what way? They have the power to remake our society and unless enough people in the senate care to increase the size of the court, there is no recourse.

(15,084 posts)Because it still takes 67 Senators to vote for it. Short of "shooting somebody on Fifth Avenue", I think he's not going anywhere.
I wish that weren't true.

When you have your own police, slipping up isn't a worry.

(9,243 posts)justices are not protected? Seems strange to me that only seven justices receive protection.
However, following your link, it says this police force protects the Supreme Court, the justices, employees, guests and visitors.
fescuerescue
(4,448 posts)Yes. The SC police protect all those people and things.
The SC police are part of the judiciary branch. Which is headed by the justices.
