Is it me, or are the Covid trends encouraging?

Worldometers is showing fewer new cases every day.

I don't believe Florida's numbers, but other states like MO and LA that were inundated early by Delta are improving quickly. The entire south has dropping numbers.

Some states are still on the steep increase phase of Delta, but there seems to be a pattern emerging where the steep increase is followed by an equally steep decline.

I know winter is coming. But schools just opened and these trends are unexpectedly good.

We've had super spreader events for about a month now with Labor Day parties and full stadiums with maskless fans and so far at least, we haven't seen an explosion. Those are outdoor events and that could change - and I'm not going to any such events - but am hoping that maybe things are looking better.

But a lot of states are not reporting regularly - so there's a several day lag before the numbers are close to accurate.

A lot of vaccinated people believe they have allergies or a cold or a migraine - so they aren't testing.

It looks like a plateau, or a decline (been looking that way for a couple of weeks) - so I'm hopefully crossing my fingers.

The number of new cases in definitely dropping .. However, it's going to take a couple of weeks to get a better idea of just how bad this last wave was, and I'm sure the numbers are going to look pretty bad, even in spite of DeathSantis's efforts to hide them.

The problem is this, because the stats update slowly and retroactively, by the time it's apparent how bad it was, we will be past it, and a lot of people will just not be that concerned. They will figure, "sure it was bad, but I didn't die, so screw it."

And of course, vaccinations went up a little when it was looking bad, now that the situation is improving slightly the number of vaccinations is going back down ..

And now the winter wave looms in the not so distant future ..... Stay Tuned

Florida's population is older, and the vast majority of the 65+ population has had a 90%+ vaccination rate since the vaccines came out.

Given the lag that Black and Hispanic populations have had in adopting the vaccine; I suspect, at least in Florida, it has more adversely affected our side rather than the Repubs.

It might be true that Democratic voters got hard hit earlier, with Repukes getting harder hit with the Delta later, or that more diverse cities like Jax had very high numbers, whereas the more conservative areas were spread out. All in all, I think Democrats and Independents tried to follow the rules with mask wearing and distancing .. and bear in mind that younger voters will tend to lean more liberal anyway, and their numbers were generally (generally) spared.

It is confusing ..

... CovidActNow, anyway. (So many websites that all supposedly track the data from the CDC don't always match, but they're usually close to each other.)

And the highest-risk counties in Ohio are generally closest to WV and KY.

Edit: Not that Ohio is very sane either, unfortunately.

On average, 3,000 new cases a day, 50 deaths per day for the last month-plus.

It's not terrible, but it's not improving. We have Idaho next door; that doesn't help.

asymptomatic cases are widespread among the unvaccinated. There are less and less unvaccinated or previously infected people to get covid. IMO, this is why the numbers are dropping rapidly. We will average less than 100,000 per day this week, and IMO, under 50,000 within a couple of weeks.
