"SNIP......

“Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) said on Tuesday that he will try to bypass the legislative filibuster on increasing the country’s borrowing limit — a move expected to be blocked by Republicans,” The Hill reports.

“Schumer said that he will ask the Senate for unanimous consent, which any one GOP senator can object to and block, to set up a vote on a debt ceiling increase that could pass by a simple majority. That would allow Democrats to suspend the debt ceiling on their own.”

he is going to ask for unanimous consent to do a simple majority vote. Any republican can and will block it. It's just a procedural move to say he tried.

Given the size of a penny, just how large would such a coin be?

His attempt to "bypass" the filibuster was to request unanimous consent to move forward.

It already failed... since it takes but a single senator to object.

He didn't expect it to go anywhere. He just wanted republicans on the record yet again as blocking the debt ceiling increase.

They’ve already held the preliminary vote and Republicans rejected it. There was no need to ask for unanimous consent before “going nuclear” if he has the votes for that.

He doesn’t.
