(53,467 posts)Manchin and Sinema who are so proud of the bipartisan bill. I think their "No" on 3.5T is just a negotiating first stance...you know, one side comes down, the other side comes up and they meet somewhere in the middle.

(53,467 posts)taking a position pushing for a bill for over four years instead of over ten year, and everything gets funded for four year, which would of course bring the bottom line down to around 1.5T. Which is may be more palatable for Manchin and Sinema to get on board with.
The idea being that getting the four year bill passed will also help us in the upcoming mid-terms as we will have delivered on our campaign promises and Joe can run on that also in '24. And once he's re-elected, we go for it again for another four years of funding.

(53,467 posts)who are supposed to be Dems but are acting more like republicans on this bill. We have to bargain hard and get what we can get to get a bill passed and still be able to say in mid-term campaigns that we delivered on campaign promises.
3.0T or even 2.75T may have to be the final number. The two alleged Dem senators have us over a barrel. Something is better than nothing.

(7,509 posts)We made a deal to pass two bills, and now bad actors are reneging on that deal.
Democrats of any political stripe will only hurt themselves if they tank Biden's BBB bill. There is no universe where democrats will be rewarded for "lowering the deficit" on a bill that's already paid for.

(4,438 posts)that if they are going to torpedo the bill, then she is going to hold a public vote and they are going to have to stand up and strangle the baby in front of everyone personally. Why let them hide in the shadows like Republicans do? As things stand they get to tank the bill and pay ZERO consequences for doing so.

(4,438 posts)Correct.
But the point still stands. If they are going to kill this legislation, then they should do so on the record, in full view of the public.
