The last shutdown in 2017 hurt the republicans big time so I’m not sure why they want to go through that again.

It provides a consistent source of income to many entities.

The restructuring of government required to effectively deal with our Climate Catastrophe will render it a non issue at some point in time, and, if no political or socioeconomic change takes place, well…..

It’s much more likely the time will come when we declare ourselves free of this debt.
Won’t that be fun.

We make the decision to incur more debt when budgets get passed.

Having a debt ceiling is like first taking out a mortgage to buy a house and later deciding if you are actually going to pay the mortgage.

Made more difficult raise - but also increasing automatically based on a calculation that would factor in both inflation and GDP growth.

what it would be like if we had to approve budgets with the infamous Balanced Budget Amendment in place.

Kill the debt ceiling, all it does is provide leverage for obstructionists.
