Nancy Pelosi says there needs to be an agreement with the White House on legislative language to support the Build Back Better Plan before the vote on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill can be put up for a vote. She says she has complete control of when the vote in the house is scheduled.

(15,325 posts)Nothing should be left to 'interpretation', & then using that 'interpretation' as a reason for voting NO on any of Build Back Better.
Pelosi is requesting this because she has recognized a possible problem in the details of the wording.
She moves no policy forward without covering every single detail.
That is why she has the success rate in her position as Speaker that she does.
She knows better than anyone at this moment.

(11,691 posts)I don't always agree with how things get done and the outcome, but to presume we know more than Nancy Pelosi about how things can get done, is somewhat arrogant.
Wealthy people are certainly very powerful in a system where money equals speech. We know this. We also know that Pelosi knows how important this legislation is to the hopes of Democrats maintaining their seats and ability to do more the the people.
When we read too much into words, we tend to get carried away in our reactions.

(26,695 posts)This may be shifting back from "we won't vote until the Senate votes" to holding a vote and even passing the bill... but the President agreeing not to sign it unless/until the Senate passes something that fits a given structure.
I don't think that will fly if true. Manchin could just continue his "pause" for ten days and force the President to veto his own bill.
