Are records that are determined to be protected under EP considered "classified"?
IOW, can a current POTUS de-classify records that a former POTUS claimed EP on?
Or, are they fundamentally different and do not enter the classification system?
Trump may claim EP on conversations he had, but if there are written records of it, and they are considered "classified", then it seems current POTUS could simply de-classify them. Right?

(115,571 posts)by intelligence agencies. Executive privilege is a legal doctrine that protects certain specific kinds of communications between a president and his staff. The fact that TFG might claim executive privilege (which is doubtful anyhow because he's no longer the president) doesn't mean written records of those conversations are classified. Although one reason for the existence of the doctrine of executive privilege can be to protect information relating to national security, and in some cases the same documents could become classified if an intelligence agency decides they should be, EP and classification are not the same.

Which bothers me. Not even Obama rescinded GWB's order.
By law, the written records of a President belong to the people.
I'm wrong about this... but I'm still reading why.
