"SNIP.....
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) is facing a growing political revolt at home from the voters who once counted themselves among her most devoted supporters, the New York Times reports.
Many of the states most fervent Democrats now see her as an obstructionist whose refusal to sign onto a major social policy and climate change bill has helped imperil the partys agenda.

"SNIP.......
A new Civiqs poll in Arizona finds Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) with a dismal 17% to 65% favorable rating among Democratic voters.
Among independent voters, she has only a 27% favorable rating.

(24,562 posts)I don't know what her future plans are, but I don't think it includes reelection to the Senate.

(32,626 posts)although, things go their way they won't have to worry about elections. Might as well line up at the trough and scoop up what they can. Reminds me of this article from a while back
https://bpr.berkeley.edu/2019/12/16/gangs-and-gulags-how-vladimir-putin-utilizes-organized-crime-to-power-his-mafia-state/
The criminal underworld is thriving like never before in Europe. The individuals and groups are not random; they are highly organized, well-funded and responsible for rising levels of cyberterrorism, money laundering and murder. Fortune Magazine lists the Solntsevskaya Bratva, alternately known as the Russian mafia, as the largest organized crime group in the world and it ranks above both the Japanese Yakuza and the Mexican Sinaloa cartel in terms of overall revenue. More interesting than its current standing is how it achieved its status. From a culture that encouraged crime to a government that aided and abetted it, the Russian Federation has become a hotbed for a growing criminal underworld.
Soviet-era repression has given way to a marriage between kleptocracy and organized crime. Among industrialized nations, Russias relationship with crime is uniquely symbiotic. Organized crime in Russia has blossomed as an outgrowth of the political machine. Mafia cells have undertaken assassination attempts, facilitated coercion and acted as tools for the assorted and sundry dirty jobs the Russian elites require.
********************************
These newly established enforcers formed the seedy underbelly of Russian society that expanded upon the collapse of the U.S.S.R. and the move towards free-market practices. Since his rise, Vladimir Putin has incentivized gangsters to do his bidding in a new way. Rather than overt collusion, the Russian government, as ABC puts it, make[s] its views known and allows gangs to operate within the guidelines set forward by Putin.

(79 posts)But, is there any way for Schumer to kick her out of the Democratic caucus?
I somewhat understand Manchin's schtick. He has to show some sort of fight to play well as a D in WV, but he at least knows when to sit down and deal.
On the other hand, I think Sinema is a sociopath, who really enjoys seeing people suffer. At this point, I'm willing to give up D control of the Senate if we have to spend another 1.5+ years of placating this obvious unstable and demented person.
We already had to deal with an unstable maniac in the White House for 4 years, please let's not do this again.

(17,003 posts)She enjoys being the center of attention and the brief moment in her life when she has some power. I dont think shes smart enough to realize her behavior is going to cost her.

(90,674 posts)Do you have any idea at all what that even means?
Goods gods.
Don't get me wrong, I see it as a last ditch option, but at this rate, placating someone with zero ideology, zero ethics, and zero morals isn't going to result in anything good in the midterms. Better use this time to play hardball with politicians who think this is some sort of joke.
Rewarding Sinema's inane obstruction will be more damaging in the long run.

the difference in the world. Those numbers, bare as they are, mean committee heads and committee assignments and whether or not Mitch McConnell gets to shove through yet another Supreme Court Justice.
My gods I cannot believe there is a DUer anywhere who does not understand that math.

(6,974 posts)But the dark money man from WV and the dark money woman from Arizona are effectively doing real damage to the party, and what if very little gets done with Pres. Biden's agenda, and they severely curtail it? I get the numbers, but numbers don't matter very much right now, especially since you have people in the party we voted for doing the other party's dirty work for them. Where was the man from WV when the tRump/GQP passed their trillions of dollars in tax cuts for the rich that only helped the rich/corporations? Oh, so now this bill which will help many Americans and drive down inflation over 10 years costs too much? That tax cut for the rich is MOSTLY what drove up this current deficit that the GQP refuses to pay for, and now they want to shut the government down (Thank God that was averted) and not raise the debt ceiling to pay for THEIR tax cuts for the rich from 2019? The GQP want to destroy Biden and blow up his agenda and make sure he doesn't get re-elected and they do take the house/senate/and possibly the White House--if they can steal enough votes. Oh God, that's another story.
As far as McConnell goes, his filthy hands are clean as a whistle. What if Biden has a chance to appoint someone to the high court and the clown from WV doesn't like that pick, and announces aloud that the person being looked at is too liberal for the high court? Then what be forced to put another centerist, white male up there that Manchin (and his donors) like? It's been rumored for a while that Pres. Biden very much wants to place a black female on the high court and if Manchin torpedo's that, you talk about losing voters. Black women who've been fiercely loyal to Dems will not vote, as they will say to themselves, loyalty doesn't matter, only our votes. McConnell connived and he has his Federalists and stepford judge on the high court, but if Manchin (and his donors) don't like Biden's pick to the high court, and especially if its a black female? The votes would matter than, as we'd have 50 + 1 with vp Harris. But if it's torpedoed by dark money Manchin, or that dark money Sinema.
I agree with Rob Reiner, and Fernand Amandi.

The guy from WV and the gal from Az. is doing the work of the GQP/US Taliban for them. They sure as hell aren't working as Dems, or for who voted them into office.

(32,762 posts)If she plans on running in 24 as a gqp. She can point to her obstructionism and say see. Thing is...shes a bisexual woman...they wont consider her as a candidate. You would think that she would have enough critical thinking skills that she could see that...she only ran as a dem in the first place because she wasnt accepted by the AZ gqp.

(19,979 posts)in AZ after he saved the ACA? Is Sinema (stupidly) trying to be a big "star" by maybe single-handedly defying her party like McCain did?
Her history of zigzagging may suggest she does whatever gets the most attention.

(79 posts)Bit of a tangent, but it reminds me of Robert Ebert's (RIP) review of the terrible movie Battlefield Earth:
"The director, Roger Christian, has learned from better films that directors sometimes tilt their cameras,"..."but he has not learned why"
I think the same thing applies to Sinema. She saw McCain's "maverick" tendencies, but has never bothered to delve deep in his strategy, thinking rather naively, "If I just vote against my party, people will respect me like McCain".

(17,288 posts)Both phone mails were full. I emailed her with my disgust and said if she didnt support the Democratic Party Agenda and ending the filibuster should Pelosi/Schumer find it necessary I would not vote for again. I included the true statement that 15 of my politically engaged friends/acquaintances felt the same. I said she was putting donors ahead of her constituents and her her campaign promises.
Ive previously left similar phone mails.
I dont expect it to help, but it cant hurt. Hopefully the polling will get her attention.

(14,173 posts)What I think those that live under her thumb.....ing her nose at them, is to target the main companies that are her biggest donors. Consequence culture. Put money towards full page ads against them.....unless they come out against her positions to derail the Democratic agenda, which the majority of Americans want.
Because at this point it seems like she's made it clear that they are who she values the most, not the Democrats that voted for her.

(239 posts)Sinema lied to her voters back in Arizona. She told them she was a progressive Democrat and was all for a $15 an hour minimum wage, taxing the rich, infrastructure spending, etc. But once she got into office she did a total 180! Now she acts like a right-wing Republican! No $15 an hour minimum wage! No taxes on the rich! No legislation to bring down drug prices! NOTHING!
Of course she has received million in corporate donations since coming to Congress and so she chucked her progressive ideas out the door for cash! What a total corporate whore she is! She needs to be recalled ASAP! She will not be reelected of course but I am sure she has a cushy, big-bucks corporate lobbyist job lined up. She is a disgrace!

(12,585 posts)and the GQP takes the Senate, they'll both switch parties which will increase the majority by two and decrease the minority by two.
We already know both Manchin and Sinema are supported by donors whose goals are antithetical to the Democrats, so it's quite possible that they've been paid off for their intransigence, with the promise of a greater reward once they switch.

(24,412 posts)seems to want to be a Democratic incarnation of John McCain, however she lost the plot somewhere. McCain did occasionally stand up to his party and reveled in his "maverick" status, but he wasn't mindlessly obstructionist with his own party either and still stuck with his team on most votes. I think that her cluelessness was best epitomized by trying to re-create that moment when McCain thumbed down the ACA repeal- with the $15 minimum wage hike.
