Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) on Wednesday apologized to Gen. Mark Milley for what she called "despicable" questioning of the top military general by fellow Republican lawmakers during a congressional hearing, as the Joint Chiefs chairman fielded questions about comments he made following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, and phone calls he had with a Chinese official to assure them that the U.S. was not preparing an attack.
Cheney, during a House Armed Services Committee hearing about the U.S.'s withdrawal from Afghanistan, opened her five minutes of questioning by discussing the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, arguing that some lawmakers "failed to do their duty."
Cheney is one of two Republicans to sit on the select committee probing the riots, along with Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.).
"In the aftermath of that attack, many of the members of our constitutional system failed to do their duty. Many of them punted, many of them today are still attempting to obstruct the investigation into that attack, attempting to whitewash what happened," Cheney said.

(4,750 posts)Cheney is running for president in 2024.
Her name, her independence from her party, her (modest) alignment with Democrats will make her an appealing candidate to all the more or less sane Republicans who cant stomach the idea of another Democratic presidency.
We ignore her at our peril. She is not a friend or partner.
And she will have a degree of support among non-rabid repubs. However I doubt that she has the energy and charisma to attract a serious following.

(45,626 posts)She is pretending to be a moderate for the sake of her presidential run.
Once in office, her true and diabolical colors will come out.

(2,403 posts)Anytime a republican does even the slightest thing that is aimed in the direction of morality they are looked upon as a friend. She would be a disaster for this country in an executive branch role. We need to remember that and give her no credit above doing her job.

(8,885 posts)I envisioned Gaetz a couple of ways. One was with a swastika on his arm. Thats not hard to envision. The other was his striking likeness to Butthead. One can only imagine what Milley was thinking he would like to do to Gaetz while having to sit and listen to that worthless pedophile punks spew in his direction. He did a great job not losing it in that moment.
