Boise woman forced to go to Bay Area for medical care as COVID 'crisis' closes off Idaho hospitals

A Boise woman has, for weeks, been unable to receive treatment for her endometriosis, forcing her to travel all the way down to the Bay Area for care.

KTVB in Boise first reported that Chelsea Titus waited weeks for necessary surgery to remove her ovary, a surgery also known as oophorectomy, due to the state of Idaho's current "crisis standards of care" implemented less than two weeks ago.

When crisis standards of care, or CSC, are activated in the state as they are now, hospitals are only able to treat the most urgent of cases.

"The crisis in our healthcare system is being caused by the massive influx of COVID-19 patients who need hospitalization," reads an explainer on CSC from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.

"Surgeries are being postponed, emergency departments are full, and there may not be any beds for patients to be admitted to the hospital."

occupying a bed due to a Covid illness... do not admit them in the first place. A tent in the parking lot is more than adequate and, truth be told, more than I'm willing to pay for.

Putting the non-vaxers first is just wrong.

How is not treating other illness supposed to work.

They are worse than Texas.

Idaho people were loggers and miners when I was little. They were a very independent bunch. Those mining towns were wide open. Wallace was wild.

Southern Idaho is mostly Mormon.
