(46,700 posts)And the goal right now is to give the hospitals a break from unvacced Covid patients, because that's the main source of the casualties that we have today.
This is the realistic objective: As the vaccination rates continue to rise, it will free up the hospitals from diverting all of its resources to anti-vaxxers. Overtime, the anti-vaxxers will either be killed off by their own stupidity, or wake up and get vaccinated.
"Herd immunity" will probably be more of a situation where vaccinated people will not end up in the hospital, and not end up dead. That would be a success. That's what someone like De Santis will try to hijack.
In conclusion, the vaccination rates are going to have a final effect. This isn't going away on its own like a flu.
