It's time to stop airing our "dirty laundry" in public

Last edited Thu Sep 30, 2021, 02:21 PM - Edit history (1)

Scheduling votes that end up being cancelled, Democratic Senators opening thumbing their noses at the President's request for information on their demands, a small, and it is small, group of Democrats blocking the President's agenda -- it all should be stopped.

Negotiate privately and reach a damn consensus on BOTH bills before any more votes are scheduled.

We are not doing our party nor the country any favor by being so frustrated and seemingly ineffective in the public eye.

Edit added for greater clarity:

Well, often times NEGOTIATIONS are best carried out behind close doors.

Just to avoid people retreating to entrenched positions as we have all seen this past week.

Often a frank and free exchange is expediated by doing it privately. But of course all results should be made public and positions can and should be aired once private negotiations are concluded, one way or the other.

It can make a difference when all the details get aired.

2. No we should not stop airing our "dirty laundry" in public. If some politicians want to play games

those games should be brought out into the open. The voter has every right to know what they are doing. . It's not the voters that are harming the party and the country by being frustrated because some party is seemingly ineffective. It's the politicians that are ineffective because they look out for themselves instead of the people who elected them.

7. Bullshit. I don't think bad behavior should be rewarded and covered up. By ANY party.

Do you believe that everything fucking Trump and the republicans did should never have seen the light of day Cause it sure as fuck did not discourage voters with all their BS

9. But it generally serves the party

Both parties tend to strategically let "all the BS" out so people can point to a reason something promised or imagined didn't happen.

I'm sure there's PLENTY of dirty laundry we the peons never hear about

I appreciated your reply and views, so I edited my OP to state my beliefs more clearly.

Let me repeat them here just to make sure you can see them.

Again, I take your point about transparency in government.

Cheers.

We are, after all, their bosses. We have to know who to vote out.

It helps when the citizens can lean on their representative for what they want.

12. I disagree. One thing that President Biden promised during the last presidential campaign
Thu Sep 30, 2021, 02:14 PM

was open transparency. I would rather have everything out in the open for all to see and all to judge. No deal making behind closed doors. The public has the right to know and to form their own opinions.

that's representation. Some of those entrenched positions are why we care, why improving lives matter. I don't know who the 'we' is, but only one of my three representatives speaks out about the issues she believes are most detrimental. It's why she was elected. The other two speak on the floor, speak during hearings as part of a committee they sit on, and send emails on occasion. If i want to know something, I have to look for it. The public-eye is full of shit.
