It looks like Western states will be most affected. Paying bills by mail will mean it arrives later and payments will take longer to get there - shorter window for paying. Late Fees!!!

(38,958 posts)to allow the payment to arrive in a timely fashion. For the most part we all know what the bills are each month and while surprises do come up they should be rare. Best to switch to an electronic method of billing statements and/or electronic payments to be sure that you avoid late fees.

(20,577 posts)but the underlying assumption is that everyone is connected electronically. I live in a rural community that is majority retired. Among those are people who do not use computers or cell phones or have the $75 a month cost for broadband. Many people in the surrounding areas have very limited access.
As it is, there have been times when the bill I receive gives me 5 days to get payment there. Yes, I will be forced into paying electronically but there are others who will be caught up in late fees which is a big hit for people relying social security. At best $1200 does not get anyone very far as it is. Government and corporations do not even register such a thing.

(38,958 posts)more planning ahead. Paying electronically is probably a better option, but nonetheless one can avoid late fees by being organized and turning things as fast as they come in. If you suffer a late fee, likely a call to the vendor will take care of it as long as you have a good record with them.

This means fewer co2 emissions so it's good for climate change.
