Meanwhile, every single Republican senator just voted to curtail assistance to Afghan refugees. https://washingtonpost.com/politics/cotton-amendment-defeated/2021/09/30/7fb1a02c-2206-11ec-8200-5e3fd4c49f5e_story.html?tid=ss_tw

The evenly divided Senate narrowly turned back a Republican amendment Thursday that sought to curtail assistance to Afghan refugees who were rapidly evacuated to the United States and that would have made it more difficult for them to obtain Real IDs.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) sought to attach the amendment to legislation to fund the government into early December, which is expected to pass later Thursday with bipartisan support. Cottons amendment received 50 votes, one short of the number needed to succeed. The tally broke along partisan lines.
In addition to providing stopgap funding to keep the government open, the spending measure includes emergency funding for the resettlement of Afghan refugees who fled amid the takeover of the country by the Taliban and U.S. military exit.
Cottons amendment sought to cut off housing, food and medical aid, among other assistance, as of March 31, 2023, for Afghans who were granted parole to quickly enter the United States.

(18,486 posts)who defend turning their backs on immigrants and refugees "because we need to take care of our own people right at home" ... But when it's time to "take care of our own people right here at home," they always vote no.
Unfortunately, the press always covers these as two separate stories and rarely calls them on their hypocrisy because they can only manage to concentrate on one story at a time.

(32,626 posts)media from the GOP. There are some publications which are like 'moderates', but they can always be counted on to do what's best for they and theirs. As Scooter said...They turn in clusters because their roots connect them.

It's not like the GOP ever disguised that point.
